My martha keeps aborting my pins! Plz help!!! :(

So heres the deal. I got a martha with a cool mist on 24/7, with an ultrasonic on for 30 minutes, then off for an hour. Ive been tweaked the ultrasonic timer for a while now, trying to keep it humid enough without being too humid... I also open up my martha and fan it 4-5 times a day for optimal FAE. My temperature is between 68-74... And i keep getting all these nasty aborts! Over and over, each casing will abort most of its pins, only had a few casings make it through till completion. Any idea on what would be causing these aborts? Maybe less ultrasonic cause the fog of mist aborts them? Then what about humidity? Any comments would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks a lot! Thi is really buggin me out!  :confused:  :banghead:

A cool mist by itself 24/7 is serious overkill for a greenhouse as small as a martha. The ultrasonic is adding insult to injury to your poor soaking wet pins, so get rid of it. If the pins stay wet for very long, they will abort. That's why in a terrarium, we fan like hell after misting to dry off the wetness from the pins. I only run my cool mist one minute on, six minutes off to maintain 90% humidity. More than that is going to get your casing layers wet and abort your pins. Another pin aborter in a greenhouse type setup is when you have too much mist and it builds up on the shelves themselves, then drips to the casing layer on the next shelf below. These very large drops of now dirty water will abort pins very fast. Make sure there are no drips over your casings. If so, fix them.

Wow, good info! Thx. What kind of cool mist would you use? I have a 1 gallon per day now which i think is kind of crappy... When i run just the cool mist, the res still isnt empty after like 2 weeks.... wtf, shouldnt i be refilling it all the time? Its setup right, the filter is wet and should be cool misting, but i may upgrade to a nice 2.5 gallon per day, what do you think? It seems like w/o the ultrasonic, i can only maintain a humidity in the 70% range (which is why i think my cool mist is bogus, fucking walmart). Anyway... any thoughts?  :crazy2:

You want an impeller type cool mist . If you are talking about a wet filter , sounds like you might have a wicking type.

I agree with RR , I only use a cool mist for my green house , NOT running 24/7 and maintain great humidity and FAE :thumbup:

Agreed, you're using the wrong kind of coolmist. Take the filter type cool mist you have and simply run it in the room the greenhouse is in to sort of pre-humidify the air and make it easier to maintain in the greenhouse. As HC said, you need a spinning impeller type cool mist.

Boycott walmart please. Once they put the competition out of business in an area, they jack up the prices and cut the employees pay because they have nowhere else to work. They suck. Let's all work together to put walmart out of buisness for the good of the country/world.

Indeed, it is the wicking type. I will get a diff cool mist and work on using just that. Thanks so much for all the help! This was entirely frustrating to see 10+ cases abort!  :smirk: :thumbup: :mushroom2:

PS RR: I feel super guilty every time i even walk in there! And its so colorful i feel bad for liking it! I donno why i bought that cool mist there, friend told me $20 and i gavein to the walmartness. Look what happend, i got a POS that isnt even what i need. lol. Never again! Walmart no longer!

Check out Goodwills and Salvation Army . I never pay more then $2 for a cool mist :thumbup:

I had a 60inch martha and I had my cool mist on 24/7 and that would keep the rh at about 85-90% I also had a ultrasonic that went on once a day but dont really think it was needed.
