Vermiculite?

I'm building a terrarium, and following the instructions for that 3.2 growing guide I found here. The problem is, we're having trouble finding vermiculite. Is there anything we can substitute? The guy at walmart suggested Pearlite; of course, he didn't know why we needed it. Would that work?

You need vermiculite for preparing cakes ala the PF-Tek.

You need perlite for perlite humidification.

ok you say you're building a terarrium...what would you need verm for in a terarrium? .. why couldn't you use perlite? n/m anno got to it before me :P

You can find Verm in alot of places.
Hardware stores, Nurseries, Fred Meyers, Lowes, etc.

Home Depot has huge bags of Verm.....they come in a 4 square feet bag.
Thats enough verm for many moons.
