laptop recommendation?

I'm sure this is a question that has been asked before.
but, im looking to buy a new laptop. I have a little know how when it comes to computers but I don't trust myself to pick something.
-I'm moving to a campus with wifi, so I do need that, but I assume thats standard anyway. -I want to run windows. -I want a BIG hard drive, as large as possible, I only have a 20gb right now and it doesn't even come close to cutting it. -I want to be able to play new games, and have them run smoothly and look the best they can. -I want a DVD burner.
Im not sure about price range, but Im prepared to spend a decent amount of cash if need be.
That's basically it, I'm not going to be doing any graphic design or anything, I just want something that works well.
so, any ideas?

i would recommend getting a computer with either a 64 bit processor, or dual core.....at work we have a laptop for 800 that comes with:
Athlon 64 3500+ 512MB Ram 80GB harddrive Radeon X200 Graphics DVD+-RW drive with lightscribe 15.4 inch widescreen built in 802.11b and 802.11g wireless
it is the one i am looking at getting, then just add another 512 of ram and you would have a powerhouse of a laptop, that is atleast what i would do, and it would run about 900 totol.
if you want tjust a simple guide
64 bit or dual core athlon processor 1024MB RAM 80-120GB HDD DVD Burner Built in Graphics Card Built in Wireless
that would be good, i like toshiba and hp laptops myself, but that is a never ending argument to who makes the best laptops, alienware maybe if you can afford it.
peace

You are going to want a dual core processor, and the top of the line current mobile graphics card. But dont expect to be able to play games at best resolution with everything turned on, no matter how much you drop on a laptop, a desktop will blow it away. I can play oblivion with everything turned on at about 1024 resolution with my laptop. It will dip below 30 though if there are a few enemies fighting me.

how about the hp pavillion dv1000t:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP2 Intel Core Duo processor T2300 (1.66 GHz) 14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB) 100 GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support link
edit: yes, I would much rather buy a desktop but I'm moving to a dorm next fall and it would be alot easier to get a lap top.

www.alienware.com
They have the best notebooks around right now, you will be paying out of the ass though.
Their Aurora™ m7700 series will cover everything you need. It has 2 video card choices:
7800 GTX (will play any game on the best settings, with AA and AF on) 6800 (will play any game on medium some high)
If you plan on keeping this laptop for a couple years get X2 4200+ CPU, if not go with the 3200+ or 3800+
Go with 2gb of Ram and the100gb 7200rpm hard drive. The other stuff is personal preference.
BTW if you want to play new games having them look the best they can with smoothness then go with the 7800GTX, it's the only card that will do that for you in laptops.

alienware is a ripoff. You can find a laptop for far cheaper that has all that.

Definitely get an Intel Core Duo. I love AMD as much as anyone but they don't have anything competitive in the portable market. Dual core and low power consumption are way more important than 64-bit. I'd give different advice if you were building a desktop, but you're not. Look for something with a GeForce Go 7900 MXM module and a 7200RPM hard drive.

Ya they are. I looked and I couldn't find a laptop that even compared to that one.
