cuban cigars

i'm going to mexico tomorrow and wanted to bring back some cuban cigars for a few friends. i plan on just switching bands on the cigars to get through customs. every time i come thru customs they stop me. so soes anybody know what the rules are when it comes to bringing non-cuban cigars into the states. thanks

their are some cubans that you can purchase in the united states. Their is a specific timeline for the tobacco used, and until the year that it was banned, that tobacco is still legal. anything after that specific date in time, is illegal to obtain.

are there any rules about cigars that are not cuban. like so many, or must have band etc? any help would be appreciated.

In my opinion, Cuban cigars are no different that Domincan or any other cigars from that region. They only reason that they're desirable to American's is because we can't have them.

electrode is right, living in miami and knowing many cubans they tell me that Dominican cigars are just as good. reason: the cigar rollers from cuba escaped to the dominican republic. the dominican republic basically has the same climate as cuba and their tobacco is just as good.
