audio visuals, more than meets the eye.

Im a musician and have always been very interested in the fusion between audiovisuals/visuals/geometry/and the math that is music. On a high dose of lsd I hear the most clear sounds if I pay attention to them, same with mushrooms or ayahuasca but less so.
The spririts of ayahuasca write music as they say, they are called "icaros". Those three drugs make me feel like I can hear my brain, and it sounds far more complex than any music I have ever heard, and its all natural/not my purposeful doing because if it was that would be even more amazing. My brain becomes almost shocked by this electric matrix of harmonies and constantly moving in this complex intertwined way. With mushrooms and ayahuasca, it sounds more like massive collection of entities(Thousands) with musical personalities as they wistle at me, and with those two drugs I sing back to them in my mind and they react and cheere for me, and the sounds even explode with color from each little curled up node of information. I am convinced it is some sort of communication with something. I made this post because although Im pretty sure I know what it is or atleast what "they" have taught me, I would like to hear your take on it if you have experienced anything even sort of like it. I have come to the conclusion that these are far more than simple sounds. I mean hell, I can draw pictures of them. They seem to be some form of the primal logos, but from what I have learned from them, they are not long since dead cavemen, but they are more like mathmaticians or aliens. Not literally but archetypically.
I was just wondering what you might think of all this, because god knows, I have alot more to say about it.

there is nothing better than music for the mind. I find the relationship between music and the mind fascinating. For me personally i have always wondered why music sounds better when i just wake up from a heavy sleep or when I'm most relaxed.
Its just that when ever I'm high, music is what creates my current world around me. There's nothing like hearing music and seeing the music in front of your open eyes and interact with your environment. There's nothing like feeling music flow through you and hit you like an arrow that creates a life time of nirvana. There's nothing like closing your eyes and dreaming while awake to a landscape of colors and life like scenes that corresponds to the music ones listing too.
I cant wait till my first time with shrooms this weekend, gona listen to lots of music...

Thats great man........ I hope more people find this to be interesting, because whatever it is I am talking about is most certainly interesting and very valid. When I was young and could hardly play a jazzy riff on the guitar, I still heard the sounds. The more I understood psychedelics and the more I knew about music I could interact with them. Which frankly, is a pretty freaky subject.
Thanks for this first reply, and I wish you much during your first mushroom trip.

Music (good music) is directly connected to my soul. It is so pure and beautiful to me- as the world flies by at millions of mph, the 11/20/98 Hood (for example) is always just that, remaining untouched as the rest of the world and our lives fly by that time.
When on psychedelics, the connection between music, my soul, and a greater power that exists is just so much more evident and powerful. As you very well known Stem, when Trey is deep into a David Bowie (excuse the Phish examples... I know you will ), those notes that fly into the air are so much more than notes ... they are life , they are thought, they are untouched and pure and utterly beautiful and perfect. Music is the only thing that is perfect

just outa curiosity what kinda music do you like to trip to the most? For me is usually your 1965-70 psychedelic. Jefferson Airplane, Pinkfloyd, Animals, Jimmi, Cream, Buffalow springfield, CCR, Canned Heat and much much much much more. Now i know these arnt all psychedelic but there a broad look at my favorite tripping music.
Rite now I'm relay getting into old blues, Duster Backer, Lightning Hopkins, and "Blind Lemon Jefferson" <--name influence i really like the vibe you get from this type of music.
I didn't mean to change the subject of this topic, i just wanted to know what you enjoy cause I'm always looking for new genres to explore.

I know just what your talking about, however I can only relate on a lesser level due to my lack of experiance with psychedelics. When stoned listening to music, I can so vividly hear every single pick, pluck, synmbol crash, which can get quite intense given my choice of music, brutal ass death metal. I can feel every note and tone reverberate through my brain and echo while I take the time to process everything, and then find myself on the threshold of actually seeing it
What I find most interesting is that the essentially different sounds I hear persist into sobriety. In fact, quite a bit of my music has never sounded the same since listening to it under the influence. This has supported my theory that even on real psychedelics, the different sounds are not exactly "hallucinations" just the effect of chemicals altering the typical method of percieving sound. More like gaining another perspective of the music allowing one to form a more encompasing concept of the noise.
My first trip I found myself too confused to really concentrate on the music like I could high, so I cant wait to get my half o to really experiment with this. Some acid will also be needed for this hopefully life long adventure to the depths of the audio-mind interaction.

I love that man, or AlwaysFlowin as we call you...............
You must know phish. Holy god, that really touched me being just about the biggest phish fan out there, and hell I play and listen to mostly jazz. Your example is more than a song. the David Bowie jam is phish in its full form, much like reba. Those are my two favorite songs. Im glad someone feels the same way.

Well we will for sure be meeting up in a few years when they return.
From Phish.net "Trey also mentioned that he "hopes to get Phish back together in a few years", dispelling rumors of an October 2006 reunion but confirming common suspicions that this "breakup" is really a second hiatus."

I love music, I am a total music fanatics. Music for me, even when 100% sober is a very visual thing for me. While I am sober, I dont 'see' them like I do while tripping, but songs give me a very visual sense.
Alot of the music I like, when I see it - it sort of forms supporting structures for itself. It's like, one melody will form the walls, then a bassline may form a roof to the room, then maybe the high hats are dancing guys ontop of the roofs and they are swinging something to the beat, and on each rotation of what they are swinging, they bounce a note to the guy next to them
and, its like everything is built up and relies on eachother, and if it wasnt for the base structure, the note thats being bounced wouldnt be able to exist
and this I all see in quite detail, closely synched upto the music. Thats just a minor example (and doesnt even do it justice), its far more complex / interesting than that.
But, one thing I like, is how different types of music seem to either pull me into my head, or thrust me outwards. Alot of Plastikmans stuff sort of draws me into my head, its like I can feel something in the back of my skull that is pulling me towards it with the music, like its gently wiring itself in with the pathways in my mind and coaxing me into a deeper place.
I've had a number of trips go from mild, to VERY intense by listening to this stuff. Its just this hypnotic sound that is sort of always evolving but never going anywhere, like constantly increasing but never really (sort of like how LSD visuals are always flowing outward, but never really expanding, the audio equivalent of that).
Or, other music, like psytrance - which gives me the feeling of always on the verge of 'breaking through' out of my head, like a pressure and an intensity that is constantly increasing.
All around, I'd have to say that music is pretty high on my list of important things to me. It calms me, it relaxes me, I've been able to stop anxiety attacks by putting on certian songs/sets that relax me.
I've had songs trigger memories of my childhood, recreate feelings / emotions. Theres songs that I strongly associate with certian times/moments in my life and hearing them can almost give me a flashback to that period.
I think this is also why I like tripping + clubs allot. Yes, it is fun and recreational, but I also get SO much more out of it. But even when I am sober, I can close my eyes, get lost in the music and sort of re-connect with myself better then I can at any other time. The world vanishes from around me, and there?s been times where I?ve been so lost in the music/dancing that I forget that there?s people around me and time seems to stand still. I?ll open my eyes and it?ll be like an hour or two later and be surprised that there are people around me kind of thing.
Now, combine that type of experience while tripping ? and its something else. The rhythmic movement of dancing, combined with rather hypnotic trippy heady music, with LOUD LOUD music that sort of overwhelmes the senses, you cant help but be fully absorbed in it, with the bass pounding in your chest, the highs which prickle the top of your head. Being able to hear the highs bounce around the room and collide off of each other and form new songs.
So yeah .. I think there is far more then meets the eye there.
But, its like the music has a life of it's own.
I remeber one night listening to some music, and the there was a pattern going a bit like
X----X-----X-----X--X--X --Y--Y--Y--Y--Y--Y--Y--Y
and when the X and Y would happen at the same time, a new stream of notes would explode from that collision and form a new melody/song/rythm/pattern/whatever. But it was like watching these notes take on life and run and jump and play ...

When tripping, If I make my way to my CD player I listen to Grant Green(creator of acid jazz), phish(I have made jam-oriented mix tapes to avoid the chaotic parts), herbie hancock(Man child, head hunters, or secrets(albums)), some good live Dead is also key in my mind(none of that bluesy shit for my tastes though I like that stuff).

Alwaysflowin, I was at their last show and I live in illinois. I had a hard time believing they were done for good. Thanks for the info. We had a hard enough time getting in to the show(and we had tickets). They owe it to us, not really but I would like to see that happen.
Thats some crazy shit man you also mentioned "hood" or harry hood. Also in my top three. We seem to have the same taste in phish tunes to say the least. You mentioned my 3 fav. songs is all.
Kaniz, you post was well said. Its great to see so many serious fans of music here.

These days acid jazz has its own meaning by far seperate of the original, and the original doesnt try so damn hard to be trippy.
Grant green, "his majesty king funk", and herbie hancocks "man child" should be a great start for sure. Trippiest music I have ever heard. Miles davis "bitches brew is pretty chaotic, but it resembles the trip very well, and is done in such a fashoin that it is not only one of the greatest jazz-fusion recordings of all time, it might just freak you out while tripping. "Bitches brew" is heavy stuff.

Hehe I just recovered this document I started one night when I had an idea to write about how Phish and psychedelics have changed my life... completely ramblistic (excuse the made up word) but here is a snippet
" 3 : 51 am, Wed. Morn, November 16, 2005. ? Decided to write about this journey and experience into Phish. Have yet to tell anyone. Seeing Trey in 15 hours. Wrote to bringphishback.com. Emailed phish.net Shrooms. Self discovery. Idea: gonzoesque with novelistic tangents with most inner thought narrative at times. Enough notes for now?Phish as a plane- when Trey and Gordo are absolutely meshing it's as if Trey floats throughout the plane gracefully as Gordo flies it effortlessly into a new dimension. Fish is the energy that surrounds this vessel, keeping it intact and whole at all times- despite it's transcendental travels... all while Page sits amidst all of this dimension defying beauty and absorbs the energy in a profound moment forever above and beyond time. "
Hehe... well I remember very little about writing that, but that's an idea of how Phish and music makes me feel.

Very well written, beautiful......
All of the members are so very important, but the interaction between trey and gordon is indeed to some phish fans, divine.
I love those guys, those antennae, without ever knowing them.
They are true artists in the deepest sense, DEEPEST.
Alwaysflowin, are you a musician yourself? If not you sure do "understand" alot about music without playing it.

you guys are making me want to do the drugs.....
The closest I ever came to this direct visual correlation to music was on marjiuana, but unfortunately it was background music from the television and its chaotic commercial interruptions.... it certainly created something, more of a tactile texture located in the space around me than an image but it was enough to create an entire world had i been just a bit higher, or had i been comfortable enough to relax.
and the thing of it is..... the noise.... it was actually..... quiet. It was subtle stuff you would never notice sober, but it was amplified to where it was louder than what was actually on the TV.... nutty time.
I've never had the right environment for a full on psychedelic experience, that was the closest I've been to musical synesthesia but it was a bad time. It was really fascinating though.
Stemmer you say you can draw this? I would like to see such a drawing.
-------------------- I am the MacDaddy of Heimlich County, I play it Straight Up Yo! ....I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human...... Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

Phish in concert: The lsd comes on as I watch the fans and listen to the synchronicity with the music, and then the mushrooms which tears my world apart. I will never be the same after their last show.

Stemmer, I am not a musician ... yet. I am learning to play the piano and can't wait to improve- I have a long way to go though. I have this strange musical sense where I can literally name almost any song I've heard as soon as the first note is played- I couldn't for the life of me tell you what the notes are though, but it's that connection between music and soul you mentioned earlier.
The notes are all inside of me and I only wish I had learned guitar when I was younger!

O man, I truly never knew such a demention of jazz existed, I'm listing to Bitches brew rite now and i cant wait to hear this high. This music actually reminds me of Dub-Reggae. Very trippy and Grant Green plays very smoothly, very mellow and flows.
Thanks for showing me this, I'm always in search of new music
