What's it like? I've read it borders on being a "drug", as in you feel rather good after drinking a cup. I'm more intrested in it's long term effects, but I'm still curious as to what it's like.

How big a variance is there between brands? How big is the variance between mature caps, and just "antlers"? One reason I ask is that I plan on fruiting invitro for a couple months while waiting for the casing to flush. Invitro fruits can be harvested within a month of inoculation. They look all bloated, and I can't tell if anything resembling a cap forms, but I'll be consuming that until I get proper fruits.

First time I drank reishi - had a very strong cup of high quality tea, I felt like I was being cleansed and wondered why I would wear unclean clothes (my clothes were old stinky and the sort) I felt after three doses over three days that crap had been cleaned from by brain after clogging there for years .
I love it .

Advice - dont eat proccessed sugar and do eat vitamin C with the Reishi that'll make it work better .

Yes different brands are very different.Ganoderma lucidum isnt always reishi although is practically always sold as such.Native american Ganoderma Lucidum normally has a white underside whereas chinese Reishi has a yellow(very yellow) underside, chinese say that the more yellow the better. So just research alot first.

I've been thinking about giving these a shot when I get free time this summer. Is it possible to start these from a liquid culture to either sawdust/logs or is agar the only seemingly feasable method?

Hi demius, Thai_connection has some hints in this thread, Reishi liquid culture, I haven't grown it this way, though I will do it this coming fall if I collect a good print.

Hey liatris, the sawdust blocks are sterilized in bags. The bags hold them together until they are colonized and ready to fruit. Once they are ready to
fruit the mycelium hold the blocks together, Reishi mycelium is very tough and
leather like as it ages. The reishi fruits grow out of and away from the
sawdust blocks. The blocks are usually supplemented with some sort of grain
and gypsum.

Hey Falcon !

Thanks for the info ! I am new to all this but really want to buy reishi before I learn to grow it(because I do not want to wait to take it). I will do a lot of enquiring of prospective sellers. I guess the safest way is always to do it yourself. Among other things, I am trying to help my liver with it - not add to any burden of toxins that I understand mushrooms pick up into their tissues very readily. When I get more time, I am planning on posting a very interesting account of really beneficial reishi experience I have heard of recently form a new friend. Thanks again.

I haven't tried my hand at reishi yet, though I plan to fairly soon. I'm going to get my feet wet with eaiser strains first, so I apologize for the lack of any first-hand advice.
