Friends' pot grow Busted. Flee to Canada or Fight?

upon returning from quite a glorious weekend i found out some very
unfortunate news. two close friends of mine were busted for about 10 pot plants out in Waxahachie, Texas that they had inside their home. the sad thing about this is that they moved out there for the cheap real estate and privacy for their grow but someone most likely ratted them out anyways :sad:. they are both out on 40k bail and thinking of fleeing to Canada and trying to obtain refugee status because of the unjust drug war. i dont even think you can leave the country with a felony pending  :confused:but i thought some shroomery members and canadians especially might know more about this.i hear fleeing to avoid drug charges is not uncommon but what are the chances of them getting extradited? they both are pretty broke so a good lawyer to fight this is non-existant the best they can do is court-appointed. any help would be appreciated, and anyone who is reading i know its been said before and ill say it again : LEARN FROM OTHER PEOPLES MISTAKES> DONT SAY SHIT ABOUT YOUR GROW!!!

Either way, their life isn't going to go back to a "normal" state for some time.

Although I can't speak about the legal implications of this, I would say it depends greatly upon how much time they are looking at. What are the charges that are being brought against them?

I mean, if I was facing some serious time, leaving the country would seem the route to take, but remember that if extradition is possible, they're going to bring your friends back and there will be no leniency in sentencing, they'll probably get the maximum.

You mentioned Canada, which was probably chosen because of the comparable living standards, the language, etc. Was any though given to going south?

canada isn't going to even think about giving them any kind of refugee status. it won't even let them in if they've got a case pending in the US. if they want to go to canada they'll need to sneak in. if they were discovered in canada, they'd certainly be turned over to US authorities.

sticking around or taking off depends on how well they are prepared to go underground. can they find work? a place to live? how will they travel? living as a fugitive is not easy, and it's damn near impossible if you aren't hooked up with trustworthy people who will help you out.

i'd run, but not to canada. i'd try to get to some back alley part the world where people aren't tracked and policed like in the industrialized west.

Find out what kind of time they are looking at.

In Texas you have to do half the jail time before parole. You can also get probation.

I got busted in Texas for growing shrooms. Got 10 years TDC, probated to 5 years probation and $2,500.00 fine. Much better than being on the run.

Its not worth it, unless your friends were charged with dealing, upon many other things, they wont be sentenced to much jail time, if any at all (this depends on their record).

If they were to flee, they would most certaintly be caught, and then they would be going to jail.

Also, if they did somehow make it to Mexico or Canada, and somehow evaded the authorities there, what type of life would they live?

They will most likely get probation time. This guy I know got caught making meth in Texas and he spent a few months in jail and got probation for a few years.

Well from what I heard so far on this forum, it seems like the punishments in Texas aren't extremely ridiculous. The 40 K bail is pretty harsh but I mean 5 years for growing shrooms, and as said above a few months in jail for making meth, I'm guessing the jail time would compare somewhat to that. Although rash compared to BC, where you need at least like...1000 plants to get jail time or something like that. But I mean your buddies would have this outstanding case their whole lives. It's a tough decision but I think I would stay and deal with it, unless there was a great offer in another country for me.

they just legalized drugs in mexico. if your pretty sure you wont get gangraped by a bunch of mexicans, then head to elpaso, where the sun is warm, and the hot sauce is delightfull.
