Drug Talk in Class

So the topic of psychedelics and spirituality came up today in my Psychology of Religion class. The professor was talking about perceived validity of spiritual experience within and outside of the religious context. Some guy raised his hand and basically said
"I've taken mushrooms before and had an experience that I feel was every bit as valid those in a religion."
The whole class kind of hushed over...luckily it was at the very end of class so the awkwardness was contained to a minimum. I was impressed by his massive cojones for outing himself like that in a room comprised of many theology majors and religious types.
So after class I went up and talked with him a bit about it and he seemed like an intelligent guy. Told him I thought that was really ballsy for him to say that and told him about my own experience on acid. The professor overheard us talking so I struck up a conversation with my prof. about it...
Goddamn I was nervous as hell. But turns out she was actually really open-minded and said she thought spiritual experiences on drugs were just as valid as by 'normal means'. I ended up talking with her about it for almost an hour. So yah, that was my enlightening afternoon. Anyone else talk with their teachers about touchy subjects like this?

First day for Horticulture I told the prof I was interested in the effects different plants have on the body and the mind, he got the idea.

I tried to stand up and say that psychedelics were useful for psycho-therapy and would backfire if used as a crutch to cover up mental disorders through recreational use.
the subject was a class debate about some woman who wasn't well and was smoking pot to help her feel better... and i was saying, well i don't think the pot would help you feel better becasue psychedelics don't let you hide from your problems, they present them to you and help you work with them and don't really work like a crutch.
and the TA was like "yes" and nodded at me like she got what I was saying (though her area of focus is teen drug abuse?) and..... it just didn't really come out right and I didn't have the confidence or authority necessary to really put my point in.
BUT I DID IT.
that's what's important.

Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

lol, back in high school we had a "informative speaker on the danger of drugs", one of his things was to pass around a bag containing two joints, so he would show us wht the devil weed looked like, if any were missing, gives security an excuse to search everyone, when they got bag back, five joints in it!!

Meh, I say he was bluffing
Anyway, I can't talk to my teacher about these subjects
They'd act friendly and interested, of course, but then they'd haul ass to the higher-ups
