How to hookup plasma tv

I had an acquaintance refer me to someone to help them hookup some plasma tv's in a new business. They have 2 42" plasmas and the wiring is already ran, but they ran coax and are now thinking they need s-video but they don't know.
I'm going to check it out tomorrow after work and see what they need. I've never done anything with plasma tv's before. I think s-video will work best for video, because it sounds like they will need a long run. What would I use for audio? If we do need long cables I'll probably have them order some online. Anyone know of any great sites for ordering reasonably prices cables that ship quick? Thanks

hdmi and dvi are the best ccables to run. component cables are next (looks like rca w/ 5 wires). s video is the lowest quality of the hd cables.
hdmi and dvi can transmit and uncompressed vidio feed making them the best
component sends the prime color serarate for second place
s vidio only separates black and white from color
edit: sorry, you said need audio. optical then coax then regular rca minus the vidio.

I can flash/jtag/repair 360's, pm for details.

What types of images will you be displaying?
Be aware that S-video cannot carry an HD signal.
HDMI and DVI will usually allow better quality video as it can transmit a digital video signal.
HDMI has an advantage however, in that a single cable carry's audio AND video.

I don't think they are doing HD. It sounded to me like they just have a cable box or satellite receiver & a DVD player to hookup. She told me they ran about 100' of coax to get to wherever they needed to be, so it must be in another building or from the front to the back. I was thinking if we needed a 100' cable then s-video and rca audio would be best. What kind of audio inputs are on plasmas?

If they have ran 100' of coaxial cable (a "regular cable line") then it may be possible to simply screw the cable into the back of the plasma (as you would a normal TV). This will depend on whether the TV has a tuner or not (my plasma does not, so it's not an option). The vast majority of plasmas will have this option.
If the TV does not have a "normal" cable input (e.g. it screws into the TV) you'll need a set top box (cable box).
You'll need to look on the back of the TV's for audio inputs. Your best bet would be to use simple composite cables. These are the standard "red and white" cables you use to carry audio on a lot of audio products.
As an earlier poster said, you might be able to use a "digital coaxial cable" or "optical" input, but these would be extremely expensive if you needed a long length, and quite frankly, the improvement in audio sound would be minimal.
Basically it'll depend on the inputs you have on the TV. The cheapest way to do everything is the "old school" way using composite cables. In this case you'll have a red and white pair of cables for audio, and a single yellow cable for video.

here's a cheap little trick. the yellow cable in rca cables are the same as a coax audio. it is also the same as any of one of the 3 vidio cables with a component wire. badchad is right about the quality improvment though, it is very marginal. just the diference of going analouge to digital and only having one wire and not 2.
sucks they're not doing hd. if you're gonna get a $2-5G tv the extra 15 buck hd cost is pennies and so worth it. it's like driving ultra slow in your new vette.

Well, me & a buddy checked it out today. The business is a 3 month old bar/clubhouse, very nice place. It ended up being fairly simple. They needed the 2 42" tv's hooked up to satellite and DVD.
The harder part is going to be the camera setup they want installed. My buddy does all kinds of wiring/repairs/etc and says it's simple stuff. They want 2 cameras, 1 hooked up to each plasma, that can be turned to watch the pool tables or stage area. They also want 3 cameras, 2 outside & 1 inside, hooked up to a vcr recording 24/7. They are also getting 2 15" lcd tv's to install on the walls so customers can see what's going on outside and inside.
We got free drinks and some awesome burgers. We're not going to charge them for doing the work. We just want to see it all come together and work out for them...ahem...VIP list...lol
