Opinions on PF Cake Style v Whole Grain Culture

What do you all think of whole grain culture vs. cake style growing. More specifically PF style as opposed to say whole rye grain. Is it really true that whole Rye grain in quart size jars can fully colonize in ten days because the substrate is shakeable or is that a bunch of bull 'ish? Is it worth going out and buying a pressure cooker? Feedback of your personal experiences would be great. Thanks a lot.

PF cakes are great for beginners....If you want higher yields try rye grain or millet. I often have quart jars of grain colonize in 5-7 days. Using grain to grain transfer of course. You must have a PC for grains...bassplayer74

whole grain substrates are arguably the logical step up from brown rice. shakeable jars can colonize quickly, no its not bullshit, but of course it depends.

Whole grain jars are generally just used as spawn, so your options are limited if you only like PF cakes...but you already knew that.

in other words, every tek and substrate has its place, whole grain is better than br in certain respects but not others, so use your discretion.
