PF CAKE SLURRIES?? * 1
    #812249 - 08/12/02 06:32 AM (23 years, 4 months ago)

I've read that one can either put cakes in a blender to crumble into chunks or can make it into a slurry and it will colonize the same
Wouldnt it be better to make a slurry and pour it into your substrate and mix while at the same time having the most innoculation points you can have when using pf cakes?
I'd like to know b/c I'm planning on innoculating one tray of horse shit and one tray of compost each with a 1/2 pint and want to get the fastest colonization possible
Basically can you blend your cakes until you have to POUR (literally) it out?

Well since no one else responded to this post, I thought I'd hazard a guess. I would imagine that if you were to blend up the cakes, the mycelium would get chopped up too fine and it might end up taking longer to re-establish itself. But having no experience with this sort of thing, this is just a theory. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me =)

i bet it would work much better...but then again, i wouldn't know. actually, i think it's a damn good idea.

aeolus, have you heard of mycelial innoculant? check it out. it's kind of like a procedure like this, but with syringes.

Well I'm still a newb, but all the mycelial inoculations I've heard of are from honey teks and stuff where the mycelium is still intact. Like I said...I was just hazarding a guess.

you're right, they are all with nutrient liquids and such. i guess that wasn't a good analogy....how about when you crumble pf cakes for casing. you can't basically break it all up as fine as you want to, but that wouldn't be the best thing to do. i imagine if you take the dry cakes and 'pulse' them in a blender until they are more of a 'pourable' mixture like a bag of perlite, they would be good for innoculating those big outdoor patches.

i remember reading ( in either Roadkill's Horse poo growlog or it was a post from bass player, sorry i cant find the link, im a little drunk right now) but if you over blend the cakes the mycellium cells will be damaged so much that it will be viryually impossible from them to recover!!! so i would definaly not recomend a slurrie, but rather crumble the cakes by hand or use a mini food procceser but be sure not to over blend!!! good luck!

here is a link to a grow log a FOAF's monkey is doing with horse poo, if your interested:

Grow log....

good luck!

Good memory!

I have put PF cakes into a mini food processor....but I keep it dry....with no water.
Do not over blend the cakes.....they will turn into putty!
Only hit the on off button a few times.

good luck!
