Possible fuiting/hydration TEK for PF cakes
    #1480644 - 04/22/03 12:18 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

I know.. I know... its better to case BUT, for those that choose to fruit PF cakes straight up, may wish to give this a try, my new puppie was amazed at the results. Here is what Pokey told me.

About 15 days ago Pokey birthed 2 dozen PF cakes at 74F + 100% humidity on the shiny side of wide mouth canning lids. After 15 days of waiting it was time for Pokey to play! Pokey dunked 2 cakes at 40F for 8 hours and saw no noticible change in color or size or pinning after 48 hours. Pokey (still wanting to play) went nuts and scored two cakes with a fork. Then Pokey filled the wide mouth canning lids with about 30cc-40cc of water (on 2 virgin cakes).

Pokey ate some puppy food, took a puppy nap, and had puppy dreams of glorious puppy splendor.

When Pokey woke up 5 hours later, the two cakes that had been given a limited supply of H2O actually had .25" - .75" of pinning/fruit growth. Pokey's little tail began to wag and he immediatly perfromed the same procedure on 4 more cakes variating the water content between 25cc - 75cc.

The two cakes that were cold/dunked showed no active growth, the two cakes that were scored show no active growth, the virgrin cakes (the ones Pokey hasn't played with) show no active growth. The cakes Pokey gave a little "raining" of water to are looking marvelous.

Pokey got the idea after a stong desire to go "hunting" after a great rainfall this morning, and remembering that Pokeys Mom loved Africon Violets and always watered them from underneath claiming that it helped the flowers. Pokey always thought his mom was a little nutty.
