wtf (PICS)

my casing is growing mycelium like crazy; especially on the PR side (right) (PES Haw on left), but the goddamn thing won't fruit.
PR side close up:
I used the 50/50+ tek w/out crushed oyster shells; i've spinkled some activated charcoal on it; humidity is around ~95% sometimes a lil less (i finally got a digital hydrometer); temp is 73 deg F; i have an air pump running for an hour through two tubes (through h202) 6 times a day; i have flourescent light on them for an hour 6 times a day. what should i do? cold shock? i'm not sure if your supposed to do that with casings. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. feel free to PM me about it.

That does not look too healthy it looks like the begining od green mold(trich) on the right . but i could be wrong cuz id need a closer examination.
if you are sure it is not mold they maybe try cold shocking dropping the humity to the 80's and maybe add a top layer of coco of 5050 on right cuz it will overlay.

I have to agree about the possibilty of that being trichoderma (aka green mold). It will start out as a white layer with many "balled white clumps" and a rough texture. After a few days it will begin to turn a shade of green as its spores are released.
However, PR's are known for the notoroiusly fast colonization of casing layers, usually resulting in overlay, which is also what you may have.
As stated in the previous post, a closer up picture would be helpful to determine which it is.
Peace

i'm pretty sure there is no trichoderma. a similar thing happened with my PR cakes a while back (colonizing in clumps) and it never turned into a contam. should i cold shock or just let it be?

Trichoderma is the "forest green mold" and starts off green, what you have in mind is either a green Penicillinum or Aspergilus mold that starts off white.
But I think that in this case this is just aggressive mycelium growth approaching overlay. I?d put some aditional casing material on top, just to cover it lightly.

well.. there is actually a good explanation for this. basiaclly i had 10 jars of each strain, i had only one tray and only one tray (and a small tupperware container) can fit inside the terrarium. I wanted to case them side by side so I could see the difference between the strains and how differently they grow. I was aware of the fact that without a wall one mycelium strain (probably the PR) would over take the other. As you can see from the picture the PR is a LOT more rhizomorphic than the PES Haw and as of today there are ~4x as more pins on the PR side (about 10:40)
maybe i'll post a pic today or tomorrow when the pins can be more easily seen.
LONG LIVE THE BERLIN WALL TEK!

Those damn PR's always overlay like that. Not a lot you can do, except wait.

i don't know why you guys are saying that there is overlay. the picture must look a little misleading because in person it doesn't look like overlay at all. the casing is growin like crazy now and the mycelium is still reaching out everywhere.

If its not overlay it will be soon. You're suppossed to initiate pinning as soon as you see mycelium just BARELY poking up into the VALLEYS of the casing layer. Some people initiate sooner...bassplayer74
Please look through the FAQ. It is very informative.
