There are so many mushrooms species and varities out there in the world. Out of them all (besides the all mighty azure) which of these are more potent, and why?
Panaeolus cyanescens
Psilocybe tampanensis
Psilocybe subfimetaria
Psilocybe mexicana
Psilocybe cubensis
-------------------- Its 8:12 I hope you 8 1 2?

P. cyanescens are the strongest of the strains you mentioned. As to why they are the strongest they simply contain more psilocybin and psilocin than the others !

I heard that weilii's are the most potent.
You heard wrong
P. azurenscens are WAY higher on the richter scale
According to erowid P. azurenscens contain 1.78 psilocybin and 0.38 psilocin where as P. weilii contain 0.61 psilocybin and 0.27 psilocin which is actually lower than P. cubensis
No doubt Anno will probably pull me up on this

According to Stamets, yes.
BUT: These are the reported maxima! This means of all the specimens analyzed the ones with the most content are those specimens that show up in the table. It doesn?t say anything about the average potency of a species or a batch.
To illustrate how absurd it is to report maxima: If the reported maximum for Homo sapiens? weight is 850lbs this doesn?t mean that your weight is 850 lbs....

Frankly, all I know about P. weilii is that I tried to cultivate it and that I got 5 skimpy aborts. That?s it.

Paradis, why are you reducing my shroom ratings when all I gave was information that can be found at erowid Earlier you were telling me that I was talking shit and that I don't know how to use agar and that "I'd better thank god" if I had any sucess which seems strange as I've got 40 sucessful cultures on the go. This site is hear to stop the spread of misinformation related to mushroom growing and you my friend *************** edited by Bi0TeK for acting like a jerk

How are Puerto Rican's? I thought I read that they were fairly potent, and grow well too.

Don't forget the 're-discovered' Panaeolus Cambodginiensis.. sounds like it's one of the most potent species around. An analysis of a couple of specimens gave a psilocin content of 0.5 - 0.6% dry weight and about the same amount of psilocybin...so a total content of the two not far off Psilocybe Cyanescens levels...nice

I know Anno but still these results give a rough guideline as to species potency don't they ? Do you know of a better source of information regarding potency ???
I appolagise for my pettiness paradis.. I'm trying to come to terms with a loved one contracting cancer and find it hard to cope at the moment which shows in my recent posts.. I think it's best for me to stop posting on the shroomery boards for the time being until I can take better control of my emotions..

As Anno said most of the maxima alkaloid analysis available is quite misleading - you will find that mushrooms like Weilli and Cyanescens dont appear to much more potent than cubensis which is quite incorrect. Anno did recently post maxima from Ps.Arcana that suggested higher contents of alkaloids than Azurescens - just because Stamet's says its more potent doesn't mean much other than one or two limited studies indicated that it may have been. From bioassay, and im sure most would agree, woodloving species from the Cyanescens family - and not the Stuntzi family - are the most potent psilocybe mushrooms: these include Azurescens, Bohemica complex (Arcana, etc), Cyanescens, Subaeruginosa complex (eucalypta, australiana, etc) Certainly bioassay of azures, cyans and the subs have indicated often extreme potency - when compared to other mushrooms. I am surprised people hold the Copelandias in as high regard - when i have measured them in terms of potency/weight ratio, twice as much material is required generally for a similar affect to woodlovers if not more. The idea of Pan cambo/trop/cyanescens varying consistantly with one another seems unlikely, sense the only real and stable differences between these are microscopic - and there is greater differences between pan.cyanescens proper. I regard Cubensis as a weakly active mushroom compared to any of the above. Of the grass species of note - Semilanceata stands out as the most potent - although again it doesnt compete with the woodlovers. Im like anno with Weilli (its slow and cottony!) but i did read something about a high content of unconverted tryptophans - but whether this has any bearing on activity is beyond my knowledge.

thats true but I don't know if you read the chart right it says a combined total of maximum percentage of psilocybin, psilocin, and baeoystin (for the combined total of potency) i'm not sure if that is what you were talking about or were you just talking about psilocybin?

Ive read the chart many times - it has no bearing on the actual potency in real terms of these species.
