Don't take this as the final word but from my understanding is that they are most potent right before or after the viel breaks. I belive at this stage the chemical compasion has reached it's fully matured adulthood. Still able to grow in size but mearly just mass and not in any other way. Not 100% sure but from my reading thats what I have gathered

I read the SAME thing in several places. They actually lose potency to volume after maturity.

I was once told that the potency does not change from 24 before to 24 hours after the veil breaks. I posted the same thread as you and this was the response i took.

I wonder why this is? Does the amount of psilocybin and psilocin begin to be reduced? Maybe it isn't that its reduced but rather that the mushroom produces psilocybin and psilocin until the veil breaks loose, or relatively the same time. Could it even be relatively constant from the start?. By growing larger the amount of psilocybin and psilocin contained in the mushroom does not decrease, but the ratio of the active alkaloids to the weight of the mushroom decreases. This could explain why aborts are more potent, and the larger ones are less so. Or I could just be full of shit. I don't know. What do the experts think????

You're not going to notice any difference. And once the cap opens, the mushroom is at the end of its life cylce, its not going to grow anymore, just going to open its cap.
