LSA Extraction - attaining alcohol

So far I have had a number of experiences with morning glory...
I have taken:
Ground seeds
Water extracted solution
Polar extracted solute - isopropyl alcohol

I have ordered more morning glory seeds and this time I am interested in attempting a polar  non-polar extraction.
I had no trouble obtaining naphtha, and I would clearly have no trouble obtaining isopropyl alcohol... however I am far more interested in having some methanol for the polar extraction due to its superior properties as a solvent.

Is there a place I could go to get methanol?
How would I go about doing this without raising too many eyebrows?
(what legitimate use could it have?)

If methanol is not an acceptable choice, would denatured ethanol be a viable substitute? (or would the denaturing agent remain in my final product?)

I wish I could just afford to buy some 180 proof..  :rolleyes:

Just buy some HBWR seeds. They have a much higher content of LSA, you wont have to do any extraction

Yes Hawaiian Baby Woodrose would be a great LSA alt. for morning glory, the only commmon sideffect is naseua tho, almost always with it tho(dramamine before helps, weed helps alot too!) But if you just wanna get the "pure" lsa and not have to crush up any yucky seeds in yer mouth, morning glory would be cheaper, and methanol would be harder to find then ethanol, no i believe the denaturing agent would be gone with the evaporating alcohol after extraction, but i am not quite sure. good luck.

i would recommend the hbwr seeds aswell, simply because you have to eat way less. and if you eat and orange/lemon with the seeds there's no nausea.

I just ground up some HBWR and threw them in a cup of coca-cola and it fizzed for a couple minutes nonstop, it's actually still going... Anybody know why?

Just curious...instead of methanol, couldn't you just use everclear? It's gotta be cheaper, and alot easier to come by.

They both work for me, but I used the word obtain in my opening paragraph a few times... shrug... I know attain is generally of a more metaphoric context but what can ya do really.

Everclear is a type of 90%-95% vodka, correct?
Would I just be looking in liquor stores?

I didn't realize methanol would have a high cost.

Im not sure if there is a difference between everclear and grain alcohol. But in the U.S. you can buy grain at a package store; i dont believe its expensive either

If you distil denatured alcohol, it will still be poisonous, but it will leave nothing in your extract because all components are volatile.

So distilling denatured alcohol, then extracting, then evapping the denatured alcohol would be your best bet.
Don't use methanol. It's quite poisonous by itself (think fumes!)

Everclear is pure grain alcohol. Well, not absolutely pure, it's 95%. It's the store-bought equivelent of moonshine. It's fairly cheap, around $5 a pint. I don't use anything but that for sterilizing or extracting, and the other 5% is water I think, so there's no other chemicals that may or may not be harmful. You should be able to pick it up by the pint or by the 1/5 at your local grocery/liquor store.

unless you live in california cause they don't sell the 95% stuff there it's like 165 proof.

you can use everclear if its legal in your area. if not, you can get away with using 151...
