Microwave 9er Tek

I am giving the 9er tek a go in the microwave. Thing about rice is that it holds water very well and does not explode. I got a tupperware container with a filter patch and self healing hole (200g). Put in 425g of uncle bens wholegrain rice and 1.3litres of water, so it weighs just over 2kg. I put it in a loose autoclave bag and microwaved on full until boiling and then on medium for about 1 hour until its weight was down to 1kg in total so it had a water content of about 50%.

I am waiting on a LC to start before I inoculate. A problem with tupperware containers is that the lids come off slightly when boiling. The autoclave bag acts as a glove box in this case. It is steamed during the heating so is sterile. When the bag comes out I can clip the lid down so no contams get in. An oven bag could also be used. Regular plastic bags may work but may shrink a bit. THe bag should not be sealed or it will explode.
