San Pedro ID
    #530156 -

i don't have a digi cam, i just wanted to know an sure fire ways to ID a pedro. I got it at home depot, it has six rives and each spine node has a major spur in the middle, and four little ones around it

Also a good sign is if it grows fast, I mean really fast if you give it water. Sometimes about 30 to 50 cm a year.
Maybe one mm above the spines there should be a small "furrow" , having a "V" form. This is characteristic for Trichocereus pachanoi.

Also the aureoles are placen in a kind of depression making the cactus look like a saw if seen by the side.

Well it certainly grows fast. It looked in rather poor health when i got it two days ago, after watering it, it has noticable filled out already. Well, as soon as i get back to school next month i'll post a pic, not that it matters, if it is or not, i'll love it anyway!

hey, i am also having trouble identifying my cacti.

i have two which i as closely identified to T. pachonii as possible, they are in my pics at www.myspace.com/highdr0 - cactus one

they have 4 spines per aereol, dark brown in color, very small spaced about 1 inch apart toward the top, the cacti are a blueish-green color, one has 5 ribs the other 6, and have that V like thing that someone above mentioned.

i also have one in there that i think may be T. peru

i also need to know when these cacti are mature if they arent mature already.

San pedro is very difficult to identify without a pic as there are a whole mess of other cacti that it could be mistaken for.

"Growing fast" doesn't tell you anything, all columnar cacti grow fast.

Highdro, I dont have Myspace so I can't look at your pics, but you do gots a real purdy mouf.

By mature, I assume you mean, when can I eat them. The answer is whenever. Trichocereus aren't like peyote, in that you need to wait until they're 14 years old. You'll need at least a pound of cactus for a good trip. You'll also want to leave a 3 inch stump to sprout more cacti, and you'll want to save the top 6 to 8 inches and root that. I'm only supersticious when it comes to drugs, but any time that I've eaten a whole column and didn't save the tip, I think I pissed off the spirit of Mescalito. Something bad always happens.

Show respect for your cactus.

On storing pedro tea...

Brewmaster: Well, the mescaline will still be in there, but I'd be afraid of it conjealing and trying to escape after it grew in size from eating all the other shit in my fridge, and possibly my dogs if it got out.

Pithlit: sentient drugs, now that is an idea ...

OneMoreRobot: Idea? It's a fuckin' reality. You know Salvia? Nigga stole my TV.
