Yeah American Beauty was the first one i herd....also the first thing i ever herd the first time i ever did LSD...so it holds a special place in my heart.
other than that....im all about dick's pick's.....all of them are good...but 33, 7, and 4 are a few off the top of my head that i enjoy on the regular.

Pub search for threads with words "Grateful Dead" in the title yielded 13 results over the past month and 139 over past year.
Similar search for words "Greatful Dead" yielded 12 results over past month and 136 over past year.
Let's talk about something else, shall we?

I'm definitly not a fan of GD studio produced albums. After spending 350+ nights with Jerry live I can't think of a non-live album that is even decent in comparison except American Beauty. The album is a gem. Workingmans is nice also. But for the most part I tend to follow Jerry's thinking in that there studio work sucks. Now you load up some Dicks Picks or other live excellent quality live show and i'm in heaven.

The key there my bother is LIVE!!! When I think of albums i'm thinking of the studio produced crap played for machines and not people.

Yeah American Beauty is definitly an exception. That fuckin album goes right to my heart and touches my soul. Especially now with Jerry gone.
Speaking of the GD, I just bought my oldest daughter another rabbit tonight and on the way home my wife asked her what she was going to name it and she said Stella Blue. She makes me so pround.

i love fallout from the phil zone, cause i went to the end of the universe, and entered a crazy mushroom pop up land that syncronized with phil's bass (2.5g mex#3 solo headphones disck 1, followed by live/dead)
but "live at the fillmore" 2-11-69, and the 4 disc set "ladies and gentlemen, the grateful dead" from the closing of the fillmore east, 4-25~29-1971
but the 69 era is one of my favorites to trip too, it has such high energy content, but then you can also switch it up wtih say dicks picks 3, or 18 and get a sweet 77 trip, with some awesome fotm.
but i suggest 69-03-02 from the shn archive of gdlive.com, that's an exelent show, listening to it right now, kinda like live/dead (some songs from live/dead are taken from this show) but more gooder, uncut, and the first set is astronomical.
as for the studio albums, i started with the studio albums, and really enjoyed them, i was never a fan of live music untill i listend to the dead live, now i really enjoy most live music (that doesnt suck, turns out that's all i was hearing in the beginning, so i was turned off by it). but i wouldnt throw on a studio album to trip to, maybe something to listen to when i'm in the car or just chillin around the house, and i have a random playlist, then the studio's fit right in with the other stuff (the one downfall of live stuff, is the anti-random factor)

you know, i think my favourite dead (studio) album is actually blues for allah, not american beauty nor workingman's. the help>slip>frank on blues for allah is pretty damn good (for studio jamming), and the song 'blues for allah' is intense to say the least
