I'm about to buy this pack... I think

I want a pack that I can put a 3Liter camelback into and take out on day trips or mild overnighters. I'm moving to WY here soon to work near Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. I already have a LARGE backpack, but I want a nice day-pack. I could even use this one for some 2-3 day camps if necessary. I want to have enough gear in them that, should I be stranded, I'll be easily OK for a few days. My water purifier, a few fire-starting impliments, a folding saw, a small mess kit, some snickers bars, some jerky, two or three MRE's, a poncho with a insulated liner that I can make a shelter out of, change of (DRY) socks and underwear, a towel and a washcloth, a few water bottles (filled with gin or tequila usually, or coffee/hot cocoa), a few extra packs of flashlight/GPS batteries, some small personal stuff, my pistol and a few mags (if legal, of course), maybe a book or some sandals, my small cookstove. Just the basics. My larger pack basically holds all of that plus a 3.5" axe, a warm sleeping bag and a nice comfy tent. I might make this into an uber-ultralight pack and put in a small sleeping bag / tent. I really like light weight camping...

I don't really like North Face but that one seems alright.
That's a hell of a place to live, I have a couple friends that spend every summer in Glacier. One of them does trail maintanence and the other is a park ranger. I wish I had mean s to get a job like that.

I have a question for you though, why in the hell do you hike with heavy, foul tasting MRE's?
The only way I would even consider it is if they were free.

MRE's are super-bad-ass-and-coo'  They don't taste bad to me, really, and they are the perfect emergency food.  I was in the military eons ago and I manage to go up to the local national guard depot a few times a year and sweet-talk and bullshit my way into a few free cases.  It's hard to really take GOOD food backpacking without planning it, buying the food fresh, etc.  So I mainly have the MRE's in for a "Oh-Shit!" situation.

www.coolworks.com gives heads-up for all sorts of awesome jobs like that, thats where I Found mine at!
