Yellowstone Super Volcano
    #2465750 - 03/24/04 12:34 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

This shit is crazy...go to google and search "yellowstone super volcano"

Over the past two million years, the Yellowstone supervolcano has erupted every 600,000 years. It was 640,000 years ago when it last exploded. Another eruption, geologically speaking, is therefore, threatening.

Five miles beneath Yellowstone, lies an immense pool of red hot magma. Fed from the Earth's mantle, it has been growing. This reservoir of magma and gas is now 31 miles long, 19 miles wide, and six miles deep. The building pressures must be enormous.

The Yellowstone "hot spot" is considered the foundation of a rare "supervolcano." It is estimated that a supervolcano would erupt with the power at least 1000 times greater than that of an 'ordinary' volcano.

The eruption 640,000 years ago created an extremely large crater - the caldera - that today comprises a major portion of the center of the park.

Signs of increased volcanic activity have recently been observed in and around Yellowstone National Park. The north part of Yellowstone Lake has bulged by nearly 170 feet over the past 50 years. The lake has spread into forest on one side of the lake as the surface beneath the water has inflated.

A massive eruption of the Yelowstone supervolcano would be catastophic for North America and would also result in years of freezing temperatures for the rest of the planet as volcanic dust and ash obscured the warmth of the sun.

maybe this is what the plastic sheets and duct tape are for.

be careful in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah , nearly two thirds of the country will be affected if it goes.

I've been watching this for the past couple of months - interesting that the mainstream media are just now starting to comment on it. IF this thing blows it's going to be very bad news for most of North America and the world in turn.

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

As it turns out, it doesn't look like any super eruptions are about to occur.

ATSNN did an interview with the chief geologist at Yellowstone earlier this year and asked all of the obvious questions. And Dr Heasler did a great job answering those questions - he clearly knows what he's talking about.

The interview is here.

Hopefully that should calm any fears on the matter. With people like him watching, I'm sure we'll get plenty of warning if it is about to go boom.

Happy mushrooming!

Can you imagine the logistical chaos it would cause if anything to the contrary were said, though? Something to the effect of three states have to be evacuated. I'm still scared .

Yeah, it could be bad. I live in the Denver area, and we'd have to evacuate over 2 million people. That's just from this immediate area.

Last I heard, the guess was that this area would be tens of feet deep in ash.

When Mt St Helens went off we got about a quarter inch of ash here from it.

One of those sites had this for comparison:

Mt St Helens released about 2 cubic kilometers of ash into the air...

A supervolcano would release several thousand cubic kilometers of ash into the air!

You're here because you know something.
What you know you can't explain,
But you feel it;
You've felt it your entire life.
That there's something wrong with the world.
You don't know what it is, but it's there....
Like a splinter in your mind...
Driving you mad.
