I'm leaving today to go work up in yellowstone for four months. I'm very excited to be living on one of the greatest national parks in the US. Hopefully get to do some good mushroomhunting in the summer and hike as many trails as possible.

Sounds like an awesome summer job. That's what I'll be doing next summer...unless I get a real job.

Thanks everyone.
So anyone know what kind of mushrooms I may be able to find? I'm not looking for actives as much as edibles or even unique kinds, anybody know the area?

i live in the state. you might be able to find gyms and p. subbs... as far as edibles, i've seen certain pleurotus (oysters) growing around here, and coprinus (inky caps). i think we get some boletes out here, too. nothing spectacular, really, except giant puffballs. i think those are edible. pretty cool to see a 50 pound fungus, anyway

My father worked there for quite some time. Was a guide and when he was done was in DAMN good shape. He got burnt out on it though and referred to it as the Disney land of nature. SOOoooOOo many people, and so many lazy fucks who cant hike for shit. He got stuck carrying city folks gear so often it pissed him off. He couldnt help but look in disgust as people half his age, and kids in their teens were struggling to keep up. He still harasses me about getting daily exercise

Very cool. Are you working for Xanterra by chance? I worked at the Grand Canyon for over a year, it was a great experience.
I have a couple friends who worked at Yellowstone. I've heard complaints about how the park is run, but as for the park itself- it's fucking beautiful and wildly unpopulated from what I understand.

Don't. The jobs are few and far between. I have a degree in forestry and all I've been able to find is seasonal jobs, which I hate.

What did you intend to do with your degree? become a full-time forest ranger?

Naw. In reality, Rangers are basically cops, with a lot of police-like training. Foresters do things like stand exams, planning, conservation work and the like. The public usually doesn't see much of foresters.

Gotcha, I want to be a full-time ranger. I know they dont make that good of money but it would be a job that I would love doing at least. Plus the State has great benefits.

That's cool. Good luck. I'd rather be a ranger than a regular cop.
