no growth from clear syringes

My buddy made his own syringes that looked clear. I read in other posts that even with clear syringes, everything goes well. But only four of his jars (out of 12) are showing growth after a week. Has anyone ever had this happen. Will the rest of them eventually do well. Thanks

What are his temps in his incubator? Might be that.....might have stalled? Might have too dry of substrate. Do you see any condensation in the jars? Temps should be 84 to 86 degrees.

Did he continue to shake his syringe so that they all didn't settle to the tip of the syringe?

Certain strains produce lighter or darker syringes. For instance, if I make a syringe of Ecuador and a syringe of GT and I use the exact same amount of spores, you would look at the Ecuador and comment how "dark and sporulated" it is. When you look at the GT syringe, you would say it looked like water, when in reality they both contain the same amount of spores. If some of your jars colonized, then your syringe was probably fine. I would look to your substrate as the cause of your problem. IMO

Substrate sound fine considering some are colonizing. I would say the syringes were either 'weak' or didn't get shaken up and all the spores were injected into the first 4 jars. Some of those other jars may come through yet, be patient!

Yeah, your probably right Max. It most likely is the lack of shaking the syringe. I have seen wide variations in water content of jars though.

He made sure to shake the syringes after every injection. The temps wouldnt really be the problem since they are all together, and 4 are doing well.

I understand that even the best syringies can sometimes (for various reasons) MIGHT take weeks to kick in (these are the exceptions) before any growth shows. Often old sryingies can take longer (like I heard of one inoculation with a vendor's sryinge taking over a month to show any sign of mycelium growth on PF cakes).

I just had the same problem. The only thing is when I made my jars I lightly packed the substrate. Packing the substrate cuts the O2 off to the cake and stops mycelium. That the was the firstand last time I'll lightly pack the substrate into the jar.
