Anyone else here listen to Yes?
    #5213875 -

Am I just a hardcore hippie born in the wrong generation, or do other people my age listen to Yes?? My friends make fun of me for listening to them, but I think it's amazing music.

I'm 19 btw.

Hehe. I don't care much for their newer albums. I really like 'Fragile' and 'Close to the Edge'. Those are two incredible albums, they take me on an amazing journey, like being on psychedelic drugs, only you're not.
I love the song 'Southside of the Sky'!!! My personal favorite off 'Fragile'. I like Jon Anderson's voice and style. He's like Geddy Lee, only more spiritual and his lyrics are much more adventurous IMO. Don't get me wrong though, I love Rush too!!

at first i didn't like'em all that much my self but once you get into progressive music there's no going back!
simple rock just sounds WAY too flat after that...

(BTW i have only one more albume apart from those two called big generator and i don't really like it... we're on the same boat as far as "Yes" goes  )

p.s your freinds are stupid!

My friends are afraid to open their minds a little. They seem to only listen to music they think others would look up to them for listening to. For instance, they like Mudvayne and Static-X because they want people to think of them as a hardcore badass mother fucker when really they're not. They buy all this amp and subwoofer bullshit for their car, and ride with their windows down so everyone else can hear this crazy hardcore rock that's blasting way too loud.

Me, on the other hand, I keep my windows up and keep the volume at just the right level. I don't want the attention that my friends get with their loud angry music. I'm sure they get labeled as idiots by those who happen to hear it.

Yeah, they are great. Most people I know don't like them because of the vocals.

Fuck yes, YES!

Siberian Khatru all the way, what a tune. Some of there stuff is a bit too way out there in an early seventies kind of way, but when you listen to what there doing nothing can beat it. Better than ELP any anyday.

Yes to Yes!

Roundabout is an awesome song. When I listen to it tripping, it's a totally different song... really kick ass.

Bill Bruford yo!

Yes is amazing. I mostly listen to prog anymore. I'm 23. Yes, King Crimson, Rush, Genesis. I used to make fun of my best friend in high school for listening to Yes because of the "faggy" vocals. Now I know what a fool I was, of course. I have The Yes Album, Close to the Edge, Fragile, basically everything with Bruford on it. They get even farther out there on stuff like Relayer but I think it's pretty sad where they wound up, unlike a band like say Rush or Crimson who are both still f'in amazing.

Yes is amazing.

Also, you're entirely right about people selecting music for surface ego reasons. I have a funny example involving one of my best friends from back in high school who I still hang out with. We were out in the parking lot at his apartments installing a new head unit in my car stereo (we were both big audiophiles back in the day, cruisin around blaring the first limp bizkit album and Korn and shit because it was so fuckin rad), this was a month or two ago and, well, my tastes have evolved quite a bit and his largely have not. He literally freaked the fuck out when I put in The Police I think it was, Wrapped Around Your Finger to test my audio. He screamed like a bitch and demanded that I put in something "fuckin heavy" or whatever or else he would freak out on my shit. I even asked him "What, is this putting your hard ass image at risk?" His response was, "You have no idea" What the hell?? Now see, my buddy Lucas is a stout, scary looking motherfucker but it's all a front to cover the fact that he's really just a huge teddy bear deep down. I guess some folks never get in lasting touch with ego dissolution, thereby missing out on some great opportunities, like Yes!

I love the album art-work on the foldout sleeve of the Close to the Edge CD case. I'll try to scan it later tonight if I remember.

Let us not forget "Tales From Topographic Oceans", a terrific double album.

For those appreciative of 70s progressive music (Rush? I don't think so), the finest purveyors were Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Genesis (no later than Trick of the Tale) and a little known band called Gentle Giant, who I saw several times. Check out their "In a Glass House" and "Octopus" albums. You will be pleased.
