premature birth and other complications
    #516601 - 01/10/02 05:45 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I have 5 half pint jars of Amazonian. All of them are pinning like mad in the jars, yet they are only 90% colonized. Ii had to birth one of them but the bottom of the jar still has about 1in square that isnt colonized. I went ahead and birthed it, and put a layer of vermiculite over the uncolonized part, think thats ok? the other 4 jars are pinning like mad too, but i figured i would birth only one till i got any sugestions from you guys. Ii have never had a strain pin so freakin much invitro!!! also the pins are very long and skinny, this because of the jar?

any sugestions?

Take the lids off and set the jars in your terrarium.

were they exposed to light while colonizing??
oh.. and flipping jars over will allow the co2 buildup to escape from the bottom of the jar (or sink to the top if sealed) and make it easier to colonize the bottom.

they were incubating in complete darkness at 84 F, and yes i had fliped the jars. but co2 isnt a concern at the moment, the jars jsut started pinning like crazy to early. Im sure the jars could have fully colonized just fine.

If you put them into a terrarium, heat up a screw driver glowing red, and cauterize the uncolonized sections first. No fungus or contaminates can grow on the cauterized sections.

but can you quarterize cased materials? i donno, but its an idea
