i gave advise as best i could describe,
yeah it was my 1st time, but the 3 other
people i went with that werent n00bs
were pissed at me cuz i had already pwn3d all of them =P
and beside, i dont see anyone giving advice so whatever.

and to tell me you dont place more weight on the
back foot when you carve is bullshit. lol

it may have been my first time, but at the end of the day
i knew enough of what i was doing to attempt jumping jumps.
so whatever. =P

and you want real advice?

dont bring your cellphone with you.
i thought it was GREAT talking to the gurl
im in-love with on the top of a snow-covered mountain.
the next best thing beside actually having her there with me.
after that phone call, i put my phone in my pocket,
attempted another jump, nose-planted the board,
face-planted my face, felt the board go over my head,
then i tumbled a couple times.

then my phone rang again, where i discovered i
destroyed the screen.
$160 dollar lesson.

Well, last time I went skiing, [last Christmas], it was extremely icy because it had rained the night before, and on the monster slopes, I know was hitting speeds in excess of 20 mph - 35 mph at tops, based on the observation of how fast trees in my peripheral vision were moving, and comparing it to the memory of how fast objects in my peripheral vision move when I drive at the 20-35mph speed. In fact, I spent most of that time wiping out from too much speed due to lack of control. :mad2:

If it were all powdery snow, then it would've been a different story.

Have fun!

After you have snowboarded for awhile its kinda tough to explain how to do something, you just do it and get used to the motion.

Just know your limits, and if you feel out of control bail on your bum, like you will be sitting down in the show.

Try to use your whole body, its hard to explain but your hips, abs, legs are al linvolved..

Where will you be riding at?

When i first started, I found a nice blue to learn on...greens can be too flat..

the joint on the ride home is going to be great!!

Nope, if your falling forward you want to fall to your knees first, if possible, and then use your forearms. You were close, but if your on hard pack or ice and you use your elbows to break your fall you can break those as well.


And i think you mean perpindicular.


Sorry, I meant when falling backwards. But even if you're falling forward, it would take a lot of skill and concentration to not fall on your knees first. You would have to stay perfectly straight with your knees locked. I don't see that happening.

And I did mean parallel, as in the snowboard facing straight downhill. In such a way that would increase speed and scare the shit out of pussies like myself. After a few times, you get over it.

I thought you meant your body being parallel to the ground, which really makes no sense.


And 40, you still dont know what your talking about. I grew up next to a mountain and have been snowboarding for 10 years. You DO want your eight even. Your more than likely not een carving at this point, only making skidded turns. You really shouldn't give advice on something you know nothing about.

When you put more wheight on your back foot you increase the chances of the nose of your board being thrown either way by any chunk of ice or lip in the snow that may come along. The reason I dont give advice is because he is not on the snow and you can't truly give him an idea of what really needs to be done. And if you were doing better than the 3 people you were with, it is becauase they are noobs. I've seen people who sign themselves up for lessons as intermediate riders, but when they get to class they are deff. begineers.





Again, if you want to learn how to ride man, get a lesson. Instructors and very nifty tricks and ways of teaching you how to snowboard. And can spot what your doing wrong by the way you ride. Even instructors are constantly learing new things to improve their riding. They too get lessons from people higher up on hot to not only teach better but how to ride better. It is the best way to learn.

In any fall you want to spread the impact to a biggest area as possible.If you have one smaller area take the hit it will take all the damage meaning broken bones.So if you fall foward you want to have your arms crossed tightly around you chest. same thing for backwards get those arms out of the way.

While the logic seems to make sense, this doesn't really apply to this sport. Do that and your going to end up witha broken face.

thats what helmets are for.Besides in a big enough fall youll end up breaking your arms and your face. so why not get the arms out of the way they arnt going to help you.Anyway it takes lots of skill and dicipline to land this way all the time i doubt any of us will i was just saying what the best possible way to land was :lol:

funny thing..everyones concerned over broken bones...

the only advice i think worth giving to a beginner is to lean on the front foot. people tend to lean backwards and it makes them loose control, while leaning on the front foot lakes it easier to turn.

other than that, he probably wont remember much once the shit hits the fan...

my first time all i remember was a blizzard and getting lost... lol. i think i ran over a few people too  :blush:
and then tried to do a jump or something... that hurt

Wrist guards like used in skate boarding aren't a bad idea your first time out either.
