Aquarium Bubbler
    #5126086 -

I read that a cool mist humidifier connected to a hose is the best choice, but i dont have the luxurary of bringing a hose into my house! I dont want to use perlite because, well it is messy and hard to deal with, i rather spend a few extra bucks on modern technology. Yeah so im going to go for something a little less conspicuous than a hose running through my window into a dresser, the aquarium bubbler. I read that the biggest problem with this choice is that it does not provide enough gas exchange. My question is if i decide to use the aquarium bubbler, how can i make up for the lack of gas exchange? Ventilation?

I never had a problem when I was using a bubbler system in my fruiting chambers.

It provided plenty of air exchange.

Ahh i see now. I thought the hose had to be connected from outside. Thanks so much guys. Im going to be posting my setup on here when i begin next week. I have to purchase and gather equipment first.

And just so im clear on this. The cool mist is the best way to go right? If so, any recommendations on how many hours per day i should leave the cool mist on for?

Oh one more question. Ive seen warm mist humidifiers. Would this work as a two in one in order to keep my temp at recommended levels or will aquarium heaters be enough with a cool mist humidifier?

The Vicks is pretty noisy but the Walgreens one isn't bad at all.

Depends. You really don't want your FC to get above the mid seventies, so if your room temp isn't too cold you should have to heat it at all. I would stick with a coolmist no matter what, and if you have to warm your FC there are other ways to go about it.

Quote:
3. Excessive Humidity

Generally, casings do not require as much humidity as cakes because it's the casing layer itself that creates the micro climate favorable to pinhead formation and development. As the mushrooms grow, they draw moisture from the casing layer as well as the atmosphere. That being said, the use of cool mist or ultrasonic humidifiers, or perlite humidification, may be too much for your casings.

For the most part, what you use to humidify is going to depend on where you live. If you live in an area where the ambient humidity is generally high, you will probably be able to get away with just a couple of mistings per day. If however, you live in an area where the overall humidity is quite low (Where I live, it gets down to about 30% during the winter) you may need to use perlite or a humidifier setup. The key to remember is that if your casing continues vegetative growth and develops overlay after you've initiated the pinning strategy, your humidity may be too high.

I just read this in the faqs. I live in one of the most humid parts of Florida, do you think a cool mist would stil be the best choice for a terrerium this size? Ahh what a headache.

Wet perlite and hand fanning is cheaper and easier IMO. It's not as messy and horrible as you may have heard.
