san pedro from seeds
    #512109 - 01/06/02 01:21 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

I have the opportunity to buy some San Pedro seeds, but I don't know much about growing this plant from seeds. Are they as reliable as cuttings if I'm looking to start growing this cactus? Are they usually viable? Do they germinate quickly? Any info you've got would be helpful.

Check the Closet Cactus care at the spiritplants site, just click HERE
Btw if the seeds are fresh you should get a good % of germination, seeds starts germinating in about a week, if the conditions are good.

I've grown San Pedro from seed. The best way I found is to get a small deli tray like the ones for an individual salad (Clear top) poke some holes in the bottom, fill with cactus soil, spray with distilled water and just barely press the seeds in the soil. Now put the top on and put in a warm place..bottom heat helps.Spray with water if the soil looks too dry.As soon as they sprout, give plenty of light,I usually keep the plastic top on for a month or so.
Cuttings root very reliably,you really should'nt have a problem.Just don't over water.
