question on rye grass and LCs

I'm attempting to inoculate quarts of rye grass with Mexicana-A using a LC.

I decided to do a 50/50 coffee soak, so, after 24 hours the grass just doesn't seem all that wet. I'm afraid to simmer, as I have read that rye grass will get gooey quick in hot water. Now I see why the recommendation is measure the grass and water, and add both to the jar. Anyway, could it be that the grass is well hydrated, but doesn't show it like WBS?

And, I'm doing a dextrose/light malt LC. I didn't read until after inoculation that I should run the solution through a filter and PC a second time. So I have specks of malt floating around. I can also see some mycelium, but I don't get that big suspended cloud like I've seen in pics. Is it OK for malt to be floating around in the LC? And, should I wait for the cloud, or is being able to see some mycelium "good enough"? I'll probably wait another day or two either way and see what it does.

I don't know about the Rye grass...

But yeah the LC is ok...it's just harder to see if there is contaminates...
