why do clocks have dials

why do clocks have dials? to change time..back and forth ? daylight savings time? its 5 now..i meen no, its 4..that makes no sence to me..whats the meaning behind it all!!!!!!!!! :confused:

It makes perfect sense since early devices to measure time were sundials...once we created machinery that could automate something ticking along, we just overrode the need for a sun to cast a shadow and replaced it with an automated dial...

Why the hell not? Time is an invention of perception. There is no uniform time. It is never 4 o'clock. To me it might be 4. To you it might 3:58.

It's like language - a happy medium so we can all co-exist along the same spine of life. English does not exist as an entity. We each have our own version of English in our heads.
