finally got my router working

a few weeks ago i went out at 8 am and best buy was closed. so i went to wallmart and bought a Belkin router

i thought it was a usual 10/100 router but its only 54 g's anyways the goddamned automatic setup thing didnt work. for weeks it sat there not working and my laptop only ocasianally got the neighbors wifi.

anyways i fixed my router, the MAC adress wasnt right, i had to clone the one from my computer, anyways. i got it to work :smile: so youll see me spending lots of time around here :smile: lots more that is.

Yeah as a computer tech, that is the main problem when it comes to routers. People just never clone their MAC address so nothing works. I'm glad it's working for ya though!

What do you mean 54 g's? 54Gb/s? It doesn't matter if it's that high because you'll never reach that speed anyway. :wink:

I never have to clone the mac address, just plug in the cord from the cable modem into the internet slow, and then plug in my computer or turn on the wireless card, and boom, good to go.

i think tat the 54g is 54mbps, which is half as fast as a linksys which is 100g's

yeah on the internet it isnt a big deal , but when transfering data from one comp to another i think that i can eceed that as both of my cards are 10/100 anyhow.

also the 54 is split between all of the computers on the wireless netowrk, but im the only one so it dosent really matter.


and yeah if oyure using a linksys they seem to work easier, but these damn belkins...... dont seem to be that friendly.

The linksys routers are also 54g standards. The 54g is a router which runs at 54 Mbps and is on the G standard (G is the best out of the 3 wireless standards, A, B, G). 54 Mbps is plenty fast when transfering files over your network. You could shell out the extra doe to buy a 108Mbps, but do you really need that speed, you'll never really notice it.

hmm i tohught that the linksys wireless g routers were 100 mbps... weird. goes to show that you never really know
