Getting back into the game - 5-htp?
    #4982253 -

For years I did ridiculous amounts of ecstasy and some other things and really did a number on my brain. I can feel my mind moving so much slower then it used to and I can't comprehend a lot of situations/things in my life. I get confused a lot and in social situations it sometimes just becomes too much for me and I freeze up. I have become the perpetual "drunk guy" which is sad because I hear people say it when I'm stone sober . I used to be the really nice guy who everyone loved, now I can't understand anything well enough NOT to be an asshole. It's really effecting my life for the worst and I'm trying to get back on track. I've stopped doing drugs and cut back on drinking, and i have been exercising a lot more but it doesn't seem like its doing enough. I was thinking about starting to take 5-htp, I took paxil a long time ago for a couple weeks and could not stand it but was hoping that 5-htp would have less side effects and overall be better. Anybody have any suggestions that might help me? Anyone have experience with 5-htp?

Thanks

i have no experiences with ecstasy..

try joga 5 tibetians every day just a few exercises.. this should give you power. helped me with a slight depresion.

after 1 month i felt better.

ps: its good to have a tutor, i got help from some joga guy during 10 1hour lessons, twice a week, the rest is excercizing on your own.

5htp will increase seretonin in your brain. It might help.....

Just go excercise again, eat lots of fruits and vegies, take some supplements and try and get in involved in something like yoga or meditation... That's all I can see...

BUT

If you took enough E for permanent brain damage than there's nothing you can fix... (just being honest with you)

It seems like you are on the right track so dont give up. Like Brakkie said, exercise and diet are key. There will probably allways be times when you feel that it is not enough, but your on the right track.

I would love to see your sources for your statement that E can cause permanent brain damage. As far as I know most of the early govt. studies have been proven as flawed propoganda, and later studies looked good or were inconclusive.

hi bob... a good diet, excercise and rest are important for brain health and healing.

make sure to add salmon and sardines several times a week to a sensible diet. drink plenty of water. i add a teaspoon of sea salt to each gallon i drink. all excercise is good but you want to focus on aerobic form to get blood and oxygen moving to the brain. this helps in balancing brain chemistry long term. learn to chill out while conscious. consider meditation, someone recommended yoga, great idea...

supplements work so if you can afford it use them. consider adding inositol and choline along with the 5-htp you are already taking. take these at night before going to sleep. consider using lecithin... i use a granulized form once a day in the morning. the stuff melts in your mouth and doesn't have a bad taste. it can also be blended into a shake. it's great for the brain... fish oil is important also. i take 2000 mg twice a day. i also use efa oil, it contains omega 3-6-9 fatty acids. take a well formulated multiple at least twice a day and vitamin c (ascorbic acid form is all you really need, it's the least expensive and just as effective as the forms containing rose hips and bi-flavinoids) spreading it out throughout your day. i take 8-10 grams of vitamin c each day this way. b vitamins and c are essential for dealing with body/mind stress. trust me, damage from drug use/abuse is a major stress your body/mind has to deal with each day. they're water soluable so whatever you body doesn't need you'll piss out.

there are other things you can do but this is would be a great start...

you can get better if you really want it... good luck

i've been thinking of using 5-htp too because it's so dark and dreary out that i can sleep for 14 or more hours and still feel tired, in fact, rarely when i wake up, be it 6-8-12 hours, do i ever feel "awake" i just am like "ughhh more sleep....."

this is mainly because no sunlight can really reach into my room, so i guess my brain just keeps churning out melatonin?

It wasn't so bad today since I was at another place and had the blinds up, I actually only got like 6-8 hours of sleep but felt real good and decent.

So yeah, will 5-htp help you wake up with decent amounts of energy or happiness, or anything other than the "i don't want to get up" syndrome? Do you take it before bedtime?

5-htp is converted to serotonin...

serotonin is released when happy...

if happy, without serotonin.. one would not feel it.. thus be not so happy..

it is all good chemistry...

Yes read a lot. Excercise a lot, you need to get some blood/oxygen pumping to the brain on a regular basis.

How long has it been since your E binge?

I'm not going to tell you to stop drinking, but I will say that drinking to get drunk is terrible for the brain.

Is it possible that this is a placebo effect? I have taken about the same amount of mushrooms as a good friend of mine and I know that it has not effected my brain in a negative way, yet my friend claims that his brain is "fried" from all the tripping. I think we can be much more in control of our consciencousness than we realize. Meditate and explore your mind. Find the root of the problem, and take some responsibility for your current mindstate, rather than blaming it all on Ecstasy.

It has been a few months now, but the binge lasted 5 years, uhhhhg. Only thing I can truly blame is my own ignorance. I'm finally starting to remember and accept things and I'm getting back on track, hopefully after that I can get some wings and go wherever I feel.

Feeling a lot better
