Agitator SHAKES it... which you can do yourself, by hand.

Stir plate stirs it, with a stir bar INSIDE the container.
Which you cannot do.

My stir plate.

You can make your own stir bars.
Rubber tubing, short nails with head cut off & silicone sealer.
Cut head off nail.
Insert nail in tubing.
Seal ends with silicone.
