Casing containers
    #496313 - 12/19/01 07:51 PM (22 years, 3 months ago)

I'm wondering why we use solid bottomed containers to case....If moisture is an issue, wouldn't a flower pot type container allow moisture to be absorbed from the wet perlite layer on the bottom of your terrarium???

Would this be overkill, or would it cut down on the need for misting???

Any thoughts???

we use "solid bottomed containers" to prevent pinning on the sides and undersides of the casing. mushrooms need light to tell them which way is up...
the goal is to have a uniform, steady pinset on the top of your casing.

Uhh...No...

I should have phrased that better...

Why don't casing containers have holes in the bottom to allow for the absorbtion of water from the perlite layer???

Thanks for the response Puscle...

But if the casing is sterilized and the perlite is sterilized, where's the danger...Bulid up of contams over time???

Is this type of contamination a threat in the first flush or later on???

I read a post where a dude said he used flower pots and did well...but I think it was his first flush...

A terrarium isn't a sterile field. Stagnant water can harbour just about anything.
