mini-pot plants

hey all,

i couldn't figure out exactly where to put this..so here it is. (please move it to another forum if necessary)

i was wondering if anyone out there is genetically engineering pot plants using the same techniques(of which i know nothing about) that professional engineers are using on plants such as watermelons and tomatoes and corn and rice and stuff.  could something be done with the genes to beef up thc production? or maybe to get rid of carcinogens? if this has happened, was it through direct gene manipulation, or only through selective breeding?  also, have either of those techniques been used to make really small pot plants, which would be suitable for closet grows.  i think it would be cool to have a plant that only got about 18 inches high but produced like 4 ounces or something.  or maybe even a six inch plant that produced an ounce in 4 weeks flat.  (i need links people if this exists :wink: )

also, what about genetic engineering and mushrooms?  perhaps they could be engineered to better defend themselves against contams.  or they could have increased potency. 

any info/thoughts?

If you're looking for small plants, sizeable yields, and consistent genetics you should set up a perpetual harvest SOG taking clones from a mother plant that you know has good genes. Check out overgrow.com.

Different strains have different genetics which lead to variances in smell, yield, size before/after flowering, THC production, and so on.

you can skip most of the vegetative stage by flowering your plants sooner. just drop the light under 12 hours to flower.

only let it stay in the vegetative for about 2 weeks

also their is a strain that is fully grown in 44 days... it's early bird or k44 or somethin like that

I'm sure its all possible... but genetic engineering is a touchy subject the way it is. I can't even imagine the uproar genetic engineering to illegal substances more potent would cause. Potent herb has been made by selective breeding for years... but that's about all I can think of.

When you get cuttings you can just put them on flowering right away... Your plant will get like 10 to 15 inches... (maybe a couple inches more)...

If you wanna limit your plant's size, why dont you bonzai or LST (Low Stress Training) or both! This way, it increases your yield too in lots of ways.

As for the yield, thats upto you, theres quite a bit of variables involve like how many plants your growing in your closet, the lighting, and ferts and whether you use chems or organic--this i prefer.

and yes, as far as I know, theres alot of scientist all over the world (BC,Europe,California, etc)that work on genetics of cannabis to produce better yield or to help certain medical conditions.
I think thats why BC bud is pretty fucking killer. It's grown exclusively indoors. too bad Marc Emery's Seeds is gone.

i know about a certine strain of cannabis that was corss bred and starts to flower as soon as it has poped out making very low plants
if my memory serves me right it's called "low rider" or something like that!

look it up in OverGrow... interesting strain but the problame is you can't clone it or keep a mother so you have to relay on seeding some of it for future generations (which means you have to keep a male around as well...) if you want a peretuate grow anyway

i'm not sure how good it is though...
it's more of a novelty then a practicallity IMHO!
at least i'd never grow anyway...

Heres an article about a huge pot bust in newbrunswick with smaller than average size plants that produced huge yields..

RCMP in New Brunswick have shut down what they are calling among the biggest marijuana grow operations they have ever seen there.

So far, the 25 officers involved in the grow op bust have counted more than 19,000 plants at the operation they uncovered in a forest in the town of Adamsville, north of Danton.

"This amount unofficially represents the largest seizure in Atlantic Canada, and possibly the third largest in Canada," said Sgt. Dave Carole of the Richibucto RCMP.

Authorities say a tremendous amount of effort went into setting up the sophisticated operation.

The grow op's builders chopped down trees over a large area. They built tall fences with the timber.

"In certain instances, the logs are nailed together, so that if you pull on one, you're pulling on four, with the branches and everything else. You can't break the barrier, you have to climb over it," said RCMP Cpl. Larry Emery.

Another interesting aspect of the grow op is that it used a relatively new variety of marijuana called early girls.

"They're more dense, lots of buds on them," said RCMP Const. Pierre McLachlan. "They're not as high. Some plants can go up to ten feet -- these don't go up much higher than two feet, and they can be cultivated sooner. "

Neighbors had no idea what was going on and where shocked Saturday morning when they saw an RCMP helicopter and cruisers chase down two men and arrest them at gunpoint a few hundred metres north of the plantation.

Police say they have arrested two men, who are about 30 years old, "both of whom are being held in custody at this point for investigative purposes," Mazerolle said.

Both men are scheduled to appear in Richibucto provincial court Monday morning on marijuana cultivation charges.

One man will also be facing immigration charges.
