Teeth straightening with Invisalign
    #4944048 -

My orthodontic odyssey has been intense and long:

1. I got a retainer (upper and lower) when I was 10. I wore them for a year.
2. I got braces when I was 11. I wore them for a year.
3. I got a wire retainer that stayed in my mouth for two years.
4. I had four bicuspid teeth pulled to make room (I had too much crowding).
5. I got braces again when I was 14. I had them for 1 1/2 years.
6. I got a retainer right after the braces. I wore them for six months.
7. My teeth were straight for a couple of years until my wisdom teeth came in and scrunched my teeth up again. I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled (I've had eight teeth pulled from my mouth!).
8. I am now using Invisalign to straighten my teeth. They are clear mouth-guard type things that snap on over your teeth and straighten them. Here are some pics:

You can take them off whenever you want which is pretty cool. They are not as annoying as braces, although you do tend to get some saliva pooling and some lisping in your speech. If anybody has any questions about Invisalign I would be glad to answer them.

Are they pretty much like retainers?

How much did that shit cost and how much did your insurance cover, if any?

Does it take getting used to or does it feel "normal". Pretty much all my teeth are straight but there is one that goes at near a 45 degree angle into my tounge region....

Invisalign fits over your teeth like a glove. The retainers that I had were much different. They (the retainers I had) had metal and plastic all in one big thing that snapped into the roof and floor of my mouth.

It costs anywhere from $4000-$5000 approximately. I don't have dental insurance (my trust fund pays for all of my medical bills). I am sure that dental insurance would probably cover some of it though.

Why do you have a banana on top of a Vincent Van Gogh painting on the floor?

It does take getting used to. They are less annoying than braces though.

I have the same kind. Metal bar/plastic. But what I meant is that invisalign seems like it's essentially the same thing. It just looks different.

Uh, does it work?

I've only had them for three weeks, so I can't say from personal experience. However, my orthodontist has used Invisalign on many of his patients with great results.
