dose anyone here make your own wine? supply question..

ive been thinking about trying to make some wine (apple cider wine) and i was reading up on it on the internet and everyone is saying you need big glass jugs and tannins and other cemicals to do it.. is that all true? i alwasy thought it was just crushed fruit/water/sugar & yest. mix it up put it in a jug and put a bloon over top of it, when the bloon sucks in the jar its done.. or is that just a getto version??

i gess what im getting at is what is the basics you need to make like a decent 5 gallon batch..

It seems the finings are only added to accelerate the fermentation process.. but it looks like its essentially just fruit and yeast..

use glass carboys, they're pretty cheap @$8 each, an airlock is only a couple
bucks, if you want the wine to come out good, listen to those that know...
if you dont care, you could end up with crap or get pretty sick

I made 50 gal hard cider 1 year in one of those oak barrels using store bought ingredients. The next year it turned to vinegar so I froze the vinegar and the alcohol floated to the top. Those blue plastic 50 gallon barrels might be easier to clean if you can find one that was used for foodstuffs. Someplaces have them for $15 or less. make sure you get the caps with them, they have nifty little openings and seal rings.
