legal status of mescaline cactii, and as powder, in the UK, including import

can anyone help me here? Government sites are deliberately vague, and I cant find info anywhere else. Is it a grey area like shrooms used to be - like fresh/prepared legal/illegal?

Specifically regarding dried cactus "incense", and also having it imported into the UK. Can anyone advise

Hmm, that's a good question. According to Erowid: "In 2004, fresh (not dried) peyote buttons are currently sold fresh at shops across Britain. Dried peyote buttons in Britain Class A drugs."

So that means anything fresh is okay, unlike here in the U.S. where anything having to do with peyote is totally illegal (other mescaline cacti being strangely exempt due to established garden use).

I just did some quick Google searching and found a place in the UK that sell dried Peruvian torch right along with fresh peyote, and a couple respectable sites that sell the dried cactus don't mention anything about not shipping it to the UK, so it sounds safe. I'd guess that the "incense" is a gray area over there much like in the U.S., meaning that it could be prosecuted as a mescaline preparation, but there's not yet any precedent of doing so.

When and if they decide to start going after people for this stuff, if it is even technically illegal there, they'll first attack the places selling it or possibly someone buying exceptionally large amounts for distribution.

Oh, and regardless of the legal status of possessing it, it could certainly be prosecuted if there was proof enough that you were intending to use it for the yummy mescaline within. Again, little or no precedent for actually getting caught and being charged that as far as I know, but the possibility's there. For some reason mescaline has never taken off as a black market kind of drug, so it's not seen as much of a threat by law enforcement, meaning they don't aggressively go after it like some drugs.

Overall I'd say don't worry about it. :thumbup:

thanks for the reply. Yea I should have said, there ARE many shops online, and real shops on the street, openly selling both dried and fresh Trichocereus cactii. I guess youre right, the risk is low.

The risk is law for you ,but the risk is high for the legal status of those plants.

Like with mushrooms if it becomes a fad then goverment will move against it. If i was you i wouldnt buy dried material. I would settle for buying live cuttings and having them grow so then i would also become indepented of vendors.

thats true. I dont want to start growing without knowing what im producing though - ive never used mescaline before.

Actually, I cant grow at all for the time being. Its something I want to do when it becomes possible.
