If you are honest...and I mean totally honest with yourself, you will automatically know the level of honesty to use with others.

That's an excellent point. I used to be one of those who gave out too much information because I didn't realize that turning a question aside was one of the options.

Also, about brutal honesty.... you have to sometimes ask yourself if you're just being brutal. You can almost always go back and tell someone something later. You can never "un-say" something, and they can never "un-hear" something you've said.

I think of honesty as a naked truthful attitude with one's self.
this relationship extends humbly to others as well.
I think it deals less with facts (which can often be argued) and more with openness, or nondefensiveness.

gomp started a talk about Truth and Power, and maybe "Brutal Honesty" has something to do with that aspect of brokering your percentage, but it may also be a perversion of terms.

I would not want to be brutal with myself. My approach to discovering what is happenning is gentle, so I don't scare away the bunnies or the salamanders.
