P2P
    #4869537 -

I recently moved to Ubuntu Linux, and disposed of all Windows.

I have aMule, and it kicks ass - it takes a while to download stuff, but I can cue up just about anything, and it'll finish eventually.

I wouldn't mind having SoulSeek as well -I like the themed chat rooms, the ability to talk to people, get suggestions, and trade (ed2k is really better as a first resource, though)- is Nicotine or Museek worth while?

How about LimeWire?

What do you use, and how do you like it?

nicotine works great - just as well as the official client (actually, you have more options with nicotine). I recommend just downloading from here ~~> http://nicotine.thegraveyard.org/#download - that is the latest release. the nicotine in the repos is slightly older.

just extract into your /home & click the python file called nicotine.

as for bittorrent, I prefer bittorrent 4.1.6 client: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33044&package_id=25125

Quote:
1. You want to download the .tar.gz source package.
2.
Code:

sudo apt-get install python-wxgtk2.6

3.
Code:

sudo apt-get install libwxgtk2.6-0

4. Extract the .tar.gz package and create a shortcut to bittorrent.py (using the menu editor) or run it from a terminal (python bittorrent.py)

never used amule/emule all that much.
no need too.

I was digging dc++ for awhile on windows.
you can install it just fine in ubuntu.

never tried limewire - heard it was lame tho from my mac friends.

I pretty much only use nicotine for music & bittorrent for movies/porn/music.

I definitely find the search function on aMule better than Soulseek. It's also nice to be able to download a file in chuncks from multiple sources, like bittorrent.

I like being able to go into chat rooms and ask for stuff, though.

I've always been partial to the Direct Connect family.
Since I got Kubuntu going, I've downloaded Valknut (it's in the repositories... universe I think). It's great if you're into DC.

then I really think dc++ is up your alley.
the trick is to find some private trackers.
If you're into IDM/electro music, I could
hook you up with an invite.

here's a HOW-TO on how to install dc++:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=28378&highlight=dc

now, it's for hoary, so I dont know if it still works
but it should.
dont worry about installing the linux headers stuff
& the gnome menu.

this will install dc++ on breezy + lots of other shit (all optional) & it's up-to-date, so that might be your best bet.

Hey, i got Automatix. I'd seen it before, but not used it - I used a different program called "Easy Ubuntu" that did some of the same things.

Automatix is about 1000x better.

Once I get dc++ set up, I'll PM you about an invite. I've been a bit busy on the p2p front the last couple days.

I use bitTornado on Linux - it works well.

limewire's pretty good. it almost always has what i'm looking for and it downloads much faster than soulseek imo. i do keep sould seek on hand so i can send files to my friends and vice versa.
