Porcupine Tree: Voyage 34

All of you should go find this and listen to it. It's a one hour album tributed to LSD, with a mellow rock/ambient sound. Very heavy Pink Floyd influence, especially in the first two tracks. I listened to this yesterday after a bowl (no mushrooms atm =( ) and found it very easy to just float away with the music. The album has 4 tracks named Phase I through IV, none of them follow any traditional song structure, they just kind of meander all over the place taking you from high points to low points and everywhere in between. Like Shpongle's newest, this album is meant to be played through from beginning to end and the head trip it generates is unbelievable.

The music itself moves around between rock, progressive rock, ambient, trance and more well known riffs like Floyd's Welcome to the Machine or Another Brick Pt 3. The tracks don't follow any real song structure, they just take you from one place to another and everywhere in between with occasional sound clips featuring Timothy Leary and various LSD users.

I would easily put this right up there with Dark Side of the Moon, Shpongle's works or Godspeed You Black Emperor. This is definatly music to trip to, and best of all it's available on vinyl so if you happen to have a turntable or two it's a lot of fun to mix.

Anyone else heard this?

Of course.  Classic trip album.  Though its probably me least favorite of Porcupine Tree's work.  The first two tracks are just a little TOO similiar to Pink Floyd.  Of course it is still better than 99% of the shit played today.

Another criticism I have of the album is when you do start to "float away" to the music then all of a sudden a sample comes in saying whatever it does.  Kinda ruins the floating away for me.  :smile:

Everyone should definately check it out though!

I like Porcupine Tree, but I have not listened to this cd. I will look for it.
