This Vernon Howard seems like a Spiritual fellow to me.

So how does one go about eliminating the sheep?

If one is not swayed like a young sapling by every breeze that comes along.

If I say you are wonderful and you feel great and then I say you are a jerk and you feel hurt, then you are a sheep.

If you win some substantial amount of money and feel great and then later have an equal loss and feel terrible, then you are a sheep.

Your self-worth and emotional happiness does not depend on the fickle opinion of others nor the whims of chance, but on a recognition and understanding of your valued place in the world.

I am basing my summation upon having read several of his books. They frequently concern the topic of 'finding your inner oasis' wherein nothing can affect you. It is not merely being stoic or strong, but about recognizing the immutable part of your essence and dropping your neuroses, and hence your 'false self'.
