For whom?

Tens of thousands of people die everyday. For them, it is the end.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eschatology
Eschatology (from the Greek eschatos meaning "last" + -logy) is a part of theology concerned with the final events in the history of the world or the ultimate fate of human kind, commonly phrased as the end of the world. In many religions, the end of the world is a future event prophesied in sacred texts or folklore. More broadly, eschatology may encompass related concepts such as the messiah or messianic era, the afterlife, and the soul.

The Greek word eon means "age"; some translations may read "end of the age" instead of "end of the world".

----------------------------------

One of McKenna's predictions for the final manifestation of The Eschaton was that it would be the moment at which the mass of humanity would, by means of some technology, become mentally conjoined in a great collective.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novelty_Theory
and the internet can certainly bring that into actuality.

The apocalyptic writings, (of which John's Revelations is but one), is a visionary account, and like all visions, they must be interpreted. The problem is that the churches have propagated an exoteric, historical and literal interpretation to so much that people are conditioned into taking apocalyptic writings as prophesies of historical events to come. Personally, I would place my wager on asteroid B-612, which is to impact Earth in about 800 years. Hopefully, by then, we will have the technology to divert the Rhode Island sized chunk of rock.

The End Times can be interpreted Gnostically and esoterically to mean 'the end of time' - a condition which occurs psychospiritually when one transcends time. It is an interpretation which resonates with Hindu and Buddhist religious thought. Those religions are classified as 'acosmic religions' which direct the practitioner to higher planes or spheres of Reality, whereas Christianity is classified as an 'historical religion,' in which the final spiritual condition (eschatology) occurs not in an Eternal Present, but in a future time. Christianity represents therefore a 'partially realized eschatology' (God still acts in the present, but is fully active in the future) whereas Hindu and Buddhist religions (despite a future avatar Kalki in the former) represent 'fully realized eschatologies.' The Gospel of Thomas (Thomas the Apostle supposedly went to India to preach the Gospel) reflects a fully realized, here and now Reality to God's Presence.

Since Paul was clearly wrong about the immanent return of Jesus in clouds of glory, he was either writing symbolically about living in a state of tension 'as if' the end were going to occur at any second, or he was simply misinterpreting OT apocalyptic thought as meaning historical events. It's been 2000 years, and Paul was telling people not to even marry because 'the end' was near. The end of time IS near, and to realize it may require a full-time focus on transcending the human condition, which requires simplification of one's life, not expansion on the Earth plane: business preoccupation, marriage, family, properties, etc.

Clearly, the End Times are (as Swami said) going to be experienced by anyone who leaves the matrix of space-time through death. I've thrown in with the Gnostics because of my own experience with transcendence of time, my experience of certain truths of Indian thought and their application to Biblical writings.

there is no end of times.

as swami pointed out, when an individual dies, it is the end of their time.

The same can be said when a whole species goes extinct.

Even if a planet is burned to a crisp, life in the universe continues on.

Its all a matter of perspective.

but wars and natural disasters are not new. they have been going on since the begining of time, so they can hardly be construed to indicate the end of it

I find that to be most accurate in my own way of thinking... it really all comes together when you consider that for every end, is the start of something new, and etc.

Every day something whose time has come ends and something new's who time has come begins.

Just think of this end of the world stuff as the end of the world as you knew it, not the end of life on earth for all itself.

The talkie talkie of the end times is about old world ways coming to an end and news ways making a begging in their place.

You will see domination and competition being replaced with co-operation more and more.

You will see more oppressed peoples become liberated from their oppressors.

You will see more that was kept in hiding "corruption", come out into the light, like Enron BS.

You will see systems once designed to serve a few, become better designed to serve the masses.

Keep on the look out for these changes and become a part of them yourself. Little by little, day by day, the planet is transforming itself from out of its old world ways into new world ways.

It always has been, and I think its just exponentially gaining momentum now.

I've seen the 2012 and Revelations stuff pop up in peoples concerns again here.

Just think of them like fulcrums on a teeter totter. For a long time, most of humanity has been walking up the side that was down working against gravity struggling in an uphill climb. Once more people individually and collectively pass their fulcrums, the teeter totter will shift and it will be an easy down hill walk from there.

They will have the advantage of being assisted by gravity instead of working against it.

A side note on metaphysical gravity. Realize yourself as the point of gravity. You always have been. When you work against yourself and put up resistance to yourself, life gets hard and becomes a struggle.

The self is the divine within and divine will. Working against it, being in denial of it and putting up resistance to it is the only "evil" that has ever been and that is coming to an end.

There's also been all of this talkie talk about a pole shift. Don't take it literally. It is a metaphysical happening people took literally. It's related to the subtle energy bodies transitioning from electro magnetics to di-polar magnetics.

With electro magnetics, positive and negative energy runs in opposition to each other and opposites attract. With Di-polar magnetics, all of the poles run in alignment in the same direction and likes attract likes.

Chin up!:)

Well yeah, war, disease, famine, and death have always been here, and they hardly signal any kind of final trancedence for humanity. But I think that we can see the collapse of the current global economy taking shape. All systems have to fall apart, and with all the political turmoil going on around the world today, something fucked up is bound to happen eventually.

Maybe our current system will collapse, maybe a bunch of nukes will go off. Who knows. But life on earth is far from over, even if all humans die.

I'm going to go with the non-literal translation of the End-Times though...

Well if WW2 or expansion of roman empire wasn't the end of the world then this isn't either.

Currently, the percentage of mass-murderers at the highest levels of governments around the world, is significantly higher, than what you will find in the general population of this planet. I'm looking forward to that time coming to an end...
