My Weekend Explosives / CT Seminars

This weekend I get to teach 12 individuals, some private, some LEO and some *ick* Federal LEO's, all about the practical applications of the explosives that they may come into contact with. I get to construct and detonate, under their watchful eyes, all manners of IED's and show them how to identify them. I get to show them what to "look for" as precursor chemicals or materials.

I get paid to blow shit up all weekend. Paid very well, too, I might add.

Just blew off a half an ounce of C4 to "make sure it works".  It does :smile:


I just want to tell everyone how radically different a real high explosive is from the fireball crap that they show on TV.  A real HE bomb doesn't have a gigantic burst of fire, cresting up in a mushroom cloud, it has a very quick blast of light and a lot of noise.  I might go to the junkyard and get a few beaters for my next class so that they can see what C4 does to a vehicle.

No, the fireballs are created with a nice mixture of Kerosene and Gasoline.

ey, I am studying mining engienering, mastered in explosives and oil, open-mine balsting and all that, I have done some practises.

Electric or electronic detonators?

I just typed that post and realized that I have 12 guys here who are drooling over the explosives and I have a lot of gasoline lying around. I'm going to make a few fireballs I suppose. You can tell the structure and organization I bring to security/CT/HD. "I've got C4, I've got gas, lets blow things up"

I honestly love my job.

I only have seen minig blasts, but I have seen a car form a terrorist act and it was like 40 meters from the place of the explosion, the explosive was not in that car, I think 5 kilos of goma-2-ECO made it, not sure

primacord is fantastic for felling trees, just be careful because some trees splinter pretty badly

What are you planning on blowing up? IF you just want to blow up some comubstible material, like gasoline or something, safety fuse from "South of the Border" works fine.

I might try to set up a Shroomery-only class, that would be freaking great. I won't charge you guys the 5,000$ that I charged each of these guys, we can just all pitch in evenly for the costs associated with it. I'll start working on something now, actually.

usually open pit mines, let people see the blasts if permision asked, at least around here, I say that in case anyone is interested in this.

Most of them were law enforcement agents of some sort or another. Two of them are security agents that do "high-risk" security.

All of the "security agents" that I provide training for are real security agents. They aren't the old retired men who work in a guard shack at a plant smoking cigarettes and watching baseball, they are armed, fit men who are hired for real security operations. Guarding a private residence, corporate security for executives and a few of them probably do quasi-legal or totally illegal things for corporations and companies.

They learned about creative methods to smuggle explosives, use of explosive detectors and the types of explosives that are mainly used by terrorists. I have a library or three filled with books on improvised explosives and I made a few exerpts from those. However, most of the explosives that terrorists use aren't improvised. They are real military explosives that are configured in a way to conceal them. The military doesn't make too many booby trap devices, but their explosives can be used for IED's.

making a bomb is really easy with some chemistry and electric knowledge, but is dangerous, two kids in my college ( mining engienering students) blew up two sumers ago while doing black powder at home.

be careful with that stuff, more with detonators and estatic electriciti.

as a whole, no. certain sectors of the military are geared towards that sort of thing though
