Meaning the question is extremely vague, and possibly in the wrong forum.

I think it is possible to experience both emotions simultaneously, but feeling both emotions for the same exact reason is unlikely.

Example: Your girlfriend of several years leaves you. You feel:

Happy, because you've been liberated and can start anew.

Sad, because you will (or already do) miss her company and affection.


It's unlikely that you will feel both happy AND sad for either of those reasons. If there exceptions to the rule, I'm not aware of them. But I suppose it's possible, especially since people experience emotions in different ways.

what's the difference anyways? it's a matter of stance and perception.

i think you can only be one at a time, but you can go from one to the other like the flick of a light-switch. on, off, yes, no, happy, sad. it's easy to see which way is what when you detach yourself. then when you come back to subjective reality, you know what's what.

Yes...it's possible. Because you have more variables in your life than just one. You ca be happy with one thing, and sad with the other. And no, this isn't in the wrong forum. It could be in Philosohpy, but i think this shouldn't be as much speculation as a respectable, exact question.

You can be happy with a relationship, but sad with family, or other combinations. Stress could also be an issue. I play a lot of concerts, and I'm happy that I'm playing, but I get SOOO stressed out, that it makes me sad at the same time. Don't worry about the crossed emotions. Just try to relax and enjoy things to the fullest.  :grin:

if you had a scenario to go along with this, maybe.. cause it depends what kind of sad, and what kind of happy.
