Can we have a scat-free discussion about S&P?
    #4737122 - 09/30/05 01:52 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

Disclaimer, I am a very sensitive person, I don't like scat... please do not post it in this thread, no matter how shitty this discussion may be.

If this thread must be moved... rather than be in S&P; can it be moved to The Pub, and not The Dump, or OTD?

I'd rather this issue be discussed in the proper forum... but geo, I know you may not think S&P is the best forum... rather than punnish me, just do what you think is best.

What is the problem with S&P...and won't it be fixed by splitting the forum, and adding a banbot... to remove subjectivity from bans?

so MAIA, I wasn't just speaking of you. You have often responded to my PMs. Not all others have.

Like I said I'm looking for some involvement. If the mods aren't posting on a regular basis then maybe they aren't even looking. Just waiting for some signal from us isn't that good. But even these get ignored at times. If a mod isn't intersted in what is being discussed in S&P for the most part. Why would you want to be a mod there?

What exactly is taking so long for the split to happen? Does anyone know? And how are they going to separate the threads?

-=Sigh=-

I come outside to go do my errands in the city, and only to discover that my car has been attacked by the birds with their scatological-missiles.

Damn the birds. This has gravely tempted the demons in me, to emerge out of the darkness, and shake the pillars of light that hold thy kingdom of heaven! Oh.. but no.. I cannot. I must stay strong. I must accept the situation at hand so that I can flow forth freely.
I... will stay...strong.

I think a ban bot would have trouble discerning subtle rule-breaking, but would work for "word" violations.

Perhaps more regular use of the "report post" feature when someone is really out-of-line would be helpful for the mods? If they are not reading the threads in S&P for violations, and are not posters themselves, I don't know how else they would be made aware of problems.

Or just address them in a thread and they are more likely to do their job.

A question we haven't answered yet, and the poll has only been up for 3 days so we'd like to see if more will have a say during the weekend.

I'd like any changes made simple so IF this doesnt work out we can change it make with no big problem.

Why are many of you saying that it was Maia's sole duty and responcibility to catch and correct what happened with veritgo?

Where was shroominism? He's an S&P mod. Phluck is an S&P mod and , he was participating it that thread, and was flamed himself by veritgo. He was a participating mod, involved in the worse flaming thread I have seen here yet, and he said nothing and let it continue.

Nothing personal against phluck. I am just wondering why the people who say the mods are being biast don't see how they have personal bias for targeting one mod and protecting another.

Why is Maia taking the heat for letting that post go so afoul of the forum rules when another S&P mod was actually in it?

Maybe Phluck was the one who gave him the warning. I don't know.

If the problem many have about unfairness is because of what they saw happen in that vertigo exchange why is maia being pinned for it when phluck was obviously aware of it and had the authority to do something about it?

I'd like to hear from phluck and those who think maia should've done something and not phluck who was there on spot as it was happening.

Unless you guys clear this up, you are just as guilty of showing a bias for mods as you accuse mods of showing a bias towards members.

Fair is fair, right?

I may be wrong, but I think it was another member who flamed vertigo first and called him a Liar before vertigo lost his grip and went on a flaming rampage. Was that other flaming poster warned?

Wouldn't that be "fair" or do some of you also have member bias's same as you accuse maia of having?

All of that aside, none of this stuff should be an issue anymore after the forum splits.

Everyone gains more of what they want and looses nothing.

There will be a place for hardcore debating, challenging, scrutinizing, and critical logical analysis of philosophies, which can include those of a spiritual mystical nature if some want them debated and challenged there.

There will be a place for people to discuss spiritual and mystical beliefs, ideas, questions and experiences that can include philosophical ones. It will be more exploratory in nature.

The best is, each forum will have mods, with a bias towards the forums intents to insure, whiners in the philosophy forum don't get coddled and to insure people just looking for light hearted discussion don't get hammered to a pulp.

The mods in the philosophy forum will have the back of the hard core debater and the mods in the spirituality forum will have the back of the discussionist. If you don't want to deal with that bias, don;t go into that forum and cry wolf. You will be redirected to the other forum and have no case to make any more. The only bad calls will be made by those who wander into either forum looking to fuck with it's integrity.

It's a win win for all.

What are people so afraid of about trying it out and what do they think they have to loose? It's all still there, just better organized to be more proficient and cohesive from all ends and angles.

I'll say it and FW already touched on it. Some cave men will loose their license to hunting ground to the "mastadon" fields as he put it. Not really, because, like I said elsewhere, the hunters can throw clay pigeons out for each other to shoot at in the philosophy forum so they can get game. Even stretching at what some thing is lost for good, it's not if you guys who like that sort of sport create it for each other. Simple problem to solve and I just did.

So can ever rest easy please, relax, smoke a bowl, take a walk, whatever, and chill. Everything is going to better then it ever was, perhaps, with a few growing pains, to be expected.

Who ever it is that can not understand what is going on and why, they will stick out like a sore thumb after the split if their caught bringing their fabric softener into the philosophy forum or their razors into the spirituality forum.

Hopefully, the members who get what is going on will help to redirect and guide them in a nice way because some people are slow to adapt to change and not leave everything up to the mods all of the time. That would be the "mature" thing to do.

I don't think it takes a banbot to do a decent job as moderator. It just takes some common sense and a well-rounded sense of fairness, which seems mysteriously absent among the current mods.

And before anyone asks, yes I could do a better job, as could many intelligent people here.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the jiggy nomination(unless you mean for the non-debate forum, in which case I'd say go for it). But ya, I think Veritas would be a good choice.
