Just don't stare too long (or wear protective glasses).

I have a friend who says he is trying to learn to live off of pure sunlight. He is training himself to stare directly at the sun. I told him that was impossible and would destroy his vision. He said if you stare at the sun as it comes up at sunrise there are no harmful sightdestroying rays. He started with 10 seconds and is up to some minutes. I can't remember how many. I think he said that when you hit 30 you transend the need for eating food.

This guy is weird admittedly, he is a new age true believer. And he is huge and strong ( he rides this giant horse. I rode it once and it was amazing how big this animal was.) and a very powerful personality. He makes over $100,000 per month selling multi-level suppelments. Strange but true.

There are people who claim things like this all the time, but every now and then someone else dies from breatharianism.

Ask him how he could get anything but energy from sunlight. What of vitamins? Proteins?

I doubt the sun will give you the daily recommended dose of calcium.

Also, most of the "successful" breatharians indulge in small treats now and then... just for the taste of course. :smirk:

Look into reduced caloric intake. Sustaining a very low diet can in fact increase your lifespan dramatically, if done properly. So they may in fact simply be living on very small amounts of food, and convincing themselves that they're living off of sunlight, or prana, or whatever they believe.

However, none of the people who claim to be able to live entirely off of nothing have been observed for more than a couple weeks.

Mystical revolutionaries or new age hucksters? You decide!

(Just don't stop eating, it's not smart.)

He used to drink his piss out of a wine glass first thing each morning. He has rarely been sick. He kind of looks like that Indian in One Flew Over the CooKoos Nest, except he has a much better build. But he has that kind of face. He is very energetic and positive guy. He loves to schmooze and sell you on his current belief system. I am always telling him he's nuts but we get along well. He likes the fact that I don't want to join him in all his schemes, and I'm not greedy to make lots of $$$.

Me? Stop eating. Not on yer life pal. I love food.  He's nuts. He believes in every Guru with a story that comes along. He makes his money off all the other true believers. I live in the true believer capital of the Pacific Northwest, so there's plenty of them.

This thread title just reminded me of the guy. :crazy2:

I used to stare at the sun in my not so bright (OK pun intended) youth. My eye doctor noticed the burned spots in my retinas. Not a good thing.

Now I wear sunglasses and a hat and try not to be stupid (as much).
