Technically, Northern soldiers in the Civil War were Freedom Fighters for the blacks and they murdered their fellow citizens.

One could argue that was two seperate countries. The Confederate States vs The United States. Different countries, different countrymen.

That's nonsense. We were one country, that's why it was a civil war. I was just trying to poke at your post anyways. :wink:

I contest that we were one country.
In 1861, a group of states that seceded from the United States of America elected Jefferson Davis as President of their rebulic...the Confederate States of America. Whether or not their oppositions leader, Abraham Lincoln(and the Supreme Court 4 years after the war), considered their secession legal, it still happened.
One land mass for sure, but not one country.

Because Uncivil War didn't sound as righteous?

The Civil War was not a civil war. It was not one country fighting amongst itself. The south split off and formed its own country, The Confederate States of America, and fought it's neighbor, The United States of America. It was a war of independence similar to the Revolutionary War.

It was a Civil War because the separatists lost, if they had won it would be a Revolutionary War or whatever. Remember, who writes the history books?

Not really...

Look at todays world: whenever a group of armed citizens rise up to either split off and form their own country, or try to take over the country, they are named "rebels".

This is because, while they may claim they are now a separate and soverign nation...they have no true credibility as such. Unless and until they win their struggle, they are just rebels. If they do win, than that victory is what gives credibility to them as a Nation.

If America had of LOST the War of Indipendance, no one would ever think of it as "America". It would still be part of Britain, and the "War of Indipendance" would be called a guerilla war where rebels tried to stage a coup.
