    #468439 - 11/24/01 02:49 PM (22 years, 12 days ago)

Will they?? Wiil the myc grow at all? I've got alder to mix with it. What kinda ratio should I use. I've dugg up a few patches to mix with this shit an lay out in foot an a half deep beds witch are aproxx. 20 yards long and 3 feet wide. In a couple different sections I put pure spawn not mixed and layered with alder an pine. anybody got experiance with this stuff?? After I get tha beds completely made I'll be watering with rainwater mixed wth cyan and azure myc. Any Questions??

Pine should work if it is old and no longer strongly resinous.

Aromatic woods, like some pines, eucalyptus, etc. contain anti-fungal properties that inhibit mycelial growth. This is to prevent invadors from killing the tree. Once these compounds decompose to a low concentration, mycelium can grow in it. However, some mushrooms have "immunity" to these inhibiting compounds and can metabolize it anyways...Psilocybes can't do that, but they can grow on it once these compounds have decomposed significantly. You can tell by smelling the wood-does it still smell strongly of sap? If not, it's probably legit.
