Moving fruiting chamber outside? (dung/straw)
    #4672983 - 09/17/05 05:04 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hi there. I am currently trying my hand at dung/straw for the first time. I have about 5 pounds in a plastic fruiting chamber. The substrate is colonized, and I just cased a couple days ago, so fruiting is coming up soon.
The fruiting chamber has holes drilled into the sides, filled with polyfill. So here's the thing:
I won't be able to fan the Fruiting Chamber more often than twice a day. I was thinking of just leaving it where it is, and putting a fan on it (plugged into a timer) while I am away during the day.

However, I've now seen a couple instances where people have moved their dung-based FCs outside..? Anyone have any thoughts on this, or any suggestions for aeration?

Thanks

Twice a day is fine. Make sure you air the terrarium out really well, and then mist to replace the lost humidity. You'll be OK.

If your setup is similar to a double tub, there is no need to use a fan or put the tub outside as long as there is SOME air movement in the room such as a central AC running into the room. If you have it in a closet or something, you can put a small fan in there just to get some air movement.
